St. Jude’s

The following is an email from one of my 8th graders that I love dearly. Please consider supporting this young man!
I received permission from Mrs. Lewis before sending this email to all my classmates and families.  Many of you have been with me since November 13, 2007.  Every minute of that day will forever be with me beginning at 10:30 am.  I was on my way out to toss around the football with J.D., Eric, and Zach when my Mom arrived to pick me up for a doctor’s appt.  After having many tests done in the office, the doctor sent me for an xray.  When we walked through the door of the urgent care, we heard the lady say “I think they are coming through the door right now”.  We checked in and were told to head back to the doctor with our xray.  By the time we arrived back at the doctor, it was raining and the nurses watched us from the windows.  They met us at the door and sent us straight back and even I know that never happens.  The doctor came right in and put her arm around me and told me I was very sick.  I got very upset.  My Mom new it wasn’t good, but she never really let me know how serious all of this was.  By 2:30 I was diagnosed with leukemia and was on my way to St. Jude Clinic at Huntsville Hospital.  We even rode up on the elevator with the ambulance drivers that transported me.  They were discussing the kid they were getting ready to transport to Memphis and we never knew it was me until later.  At 10:30 pm, I arrived in Memphis and that’s where my journey really began.

On Saturday, November 20, I am participating in the Give thanks. Walk., benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I am proof that St. Jude saves lives.  During my appointment in June, my very own doctors told me that I have beaten the odds.  Currently there are 250 kids being treated today not including patients like me that go for yearly checkups.  It is the nation’s top pediatric cancer center.  St. Jude’s mission is to advance cures for patients through research and treatment. As I walk, I have challenged myself to raise money to support the life-saving work done at St. Jude – and I am asking for your support.
All I’m asking you to do is “Give me 5”…

– Give me 5 minutes of your time by visiting my web page today
.
– Give me $5 (or more) by simply donating online
.
– Give me 5 friends by forwarding this message to 5 other people to help spread the word
.
– Give me a high-5 by joining my team for this event and celebrate with me on November 20
!

Any of these simple steps will make a difference in the lives of the patients at St. Jude! Thank you for your continuous support and prayers!

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
