Military Life 1 Comment

The Move

Our house is definitely becoming a home.

Our master bedroom  BOX ROOM

I have always heard horror stories about entrusting the Army to move your things, but we had about the most pleasant and simple experience we could hope for! We requested a move about two weeks ago to get all of my things, our wedding gifts, and the things that Jamie left at my house. We were approved for the move quickly, had the truck show up last Tuesday, and our stuff arrived at our Clarksville home Thursday night!

Seeing that moving truck when I turned onto our street Thursday night was an awesome feeling. It’s been really, really exciting to see our life as a married couple take shape in the form of a house. We’ve been calling where ever the other is “home” for the last couple months (Arizona, random hotels while traveling, my parent’s house, Fort Campbell hotel, etc.), but it’s really nice to see a house number on a little green one-story who’s garage opens up when I hit the button in my car.
We didn’t touch the boxes Thursday night. Jamie cooked dinner around 10 and we hit the sack. Friday was closing day, which made everything official. We’d done an early move-in (common in military towns), but had just been paying a form of rent until the closing. Everything went perfect, and it was actually fun (in a nerdy way) to see our realtor and mortgage attorney again after spending SO much time when them during spring break. Cool guys.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were a whirlwind. We I unpacked and set up house while Jamie stained the deck and gave our lawn its first mow. We cooked up a storm using lots of our new kitchen gadgets/wedding gifts (personal favorite – Pampered Chef Covered Baker – THANKS KERR!!) and playing with our little love, Teddy. It’s amazing how much pure joy he’s brought to our lives in the short week we’ve had him. To see him literally WEAR himself out when he come in the door is really cute. Did I mention that I finally got to catch up with the fantastic Amber Golson? She’s sorority sister who also lives in Clarksville and has a currently-deployed husband. Oh, she’s also a secondary teacher. So lucky to have reconnected with her as a friend. She provided us with a fantastic Sunday morning breakfast… thanks Amber!

We’ve already spent hours sitting at this table.

We had an entire garage FULL of boxes and packing paper by Saturday morning, and we both wondered what the HECK we were going to do with it all. His suggestion = burn it and have a bonfire. My suggestion = advertise free boxes on Craigslist. We acted on my idea (duh!), and within 12 hours EVERY. SINGLE. BOX. and piece of packing paper was GONE. We helped three different people with their moving needs, and they helped us get those boxes OUT!
GOOD RIDDANCE, BOXES AND ENDLESS PAPER!
I didn’t leave town until this morning (4am!!) because I’m trying to soak up every second with my love. Please keep us in your prayers. Deployment is here. I can’t say in writing any details of when exactly he’s outta here, but it’s soon. The anticipation is rough on everybody, so I hate to say that I’m ready for it, but in a way, I’m ready for it. He needs to do what he’s been trained to do. So if you would, we’d both appreciate prayers for strength, physically and emotionally.
I am excited to see my best friends soon. It’s been a while, as every free second the last three months has been spent with my husband (NOT complaining!). Girls, I apologize for being MIA, but I am beyond excited for reunions soon!
xoxo. – Erica
BTW – There are few things sweeter than receiving roses from a sweet student for no reason on a yucky Monday morning when work is the last place you want to be. Love my students so much! They constantly humble me and show me why I love doing what I do – teaching.

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
