As of yesterday Jamie has been in Afghanistan for three months. THREE MONTHS! Part of me can’t believe that we’ve already knocked out such a chunk of time. Another part of me can’t believe that we’ve only knocked out that chunk of time.
My friend Ali (whose husband is also deployed) and I were joking on our run a few weeks ago about the “crazy” mindgames we play in our heads to make the time go by faster. Most people would think these little ideas are such a stretch, but until you’ve been in this situation you don’t realize how much you need those small victories to keep you going! I usually don’t even realize I’m creating these new countdowns until they’re created.
For example:
I’ve decided to bite the bullet and get acrylic nails for a while until I can finally lay my horribly disguisting nail-biting habit to rest. I’m going to get them done roughly every three weeks. I pulled out my calendar and figured out that I’ll only be getting them done seven more times until Jamie is home for r&r in December. SEVEN is such a small number, so I’m going to start using that number to count down with. 🙂 Seems much more attainable.
Are you laughing yet? This method will work for me and gives me a little “pick me up” when I think about the small number.
Hope you’re having a good week. XOXO.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
