I locked my keys in my car yesterday.
While it was running.
With my dog inside.
In fact, I wasn’t the one that locked the car at all.
TEDDY DID.
So while his poor (angry) mama stood outside the running car on the side of the road with my picked-up garage sale sign in hand, he put his little paws up on the dash with a look that was all “Why are you not getting in the car, Mom?”
Me: Mom, Dad, I am so not happy right now. I need AAA’s number because Teddy locked me out of the car.
Mom: Where is your card?
Me: Locked in the car with TEDDY! And I actually need YOU to call because I have nothing to write down the number with.
Mom: Use your phone…!
Me: Um, I can’t. I’m talking to you.
Mom: Oh yeah. Okay, where are you? I’ll call them now.
Meanwhile, I’m texting Jamie’s Afghani cell phone like mad (waking him up) to see if he knows where a spare key may be at home (I’m driving his old car now). I could at LEAST get in my house a quarter-mile away because we thankfully have a garage door code. But all I get from Jamie is that he THINKS there may be a spare key in his bookbag (WHERE THE HECK is your BOOKBAG?! Crap, I’m in trouble.)
My car is going to be running for hours.
I look so stupid hanging out on the side of the road.
This yard sale wasn’t worth it.
Okay, I’ll run (in my flip flops) home. Dear God, please don’t let anyone touch this car! I’ll try to find the key and run back. Here we go.
…and as I start to walk away from the car, I turn around to see Teddy.
STICKING HIS HEAD OUT OF THE WINDOW, his tounge all sticking out of his mouth, tail wagging, like this was funny.
Maybe it was.
Me: Mom, crisis averted.
Mom: What?!
Me: Teddy opened the window.
Both of us burst out laughing, followed by a brief lecture from mom about leaving my keys in the car.
We all do stupid things, I suppose. I’m sorry, but I didn’t exactly expect my DOG to lock me out.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
