six months of marriage! Jamie’s take and mine :)

Happy HALF-IVERSARY to us!

I debated the idea of doing a “six months in review” post, and Jamie was ALL ABOUT IT. Since he liked the idea so much, I asked if he wanted to do one too. He jumped at the opportunity to be featured on the blog. HA! Sooo, without further adieu, our reflections:

Jamie:

In the course of life days come and days go and most people fail to recognize many of the days other than truly marked occasions. Well, today is one of those occasions in the recently christened “DeSpain” household.

Today marks 6 months ago that Erica and I said “I do” and I have to say that its been the greatest 6 months of my life. Every person wonders when they’re younger whether or not they will find love and if that love will lead them to the person they will spend the rest of their lives with. Well, there are many times where I wondered that over the course of, well since the time I started dating. We’ve all had hearts broken and broken some hearts and True Love and Marriage seemed like a far off dream at some point. Well for me that dream didn’t take too long.

Proposing to Erica and pledging my life to her is the thing that I’m most proud of in my life. Since we’ve been married we’ve grown and learned quite a lot about the trials and tribulations of being married. The hardest part thus far is being apart. For those of you that can’t stand to be away from your partner for a weekend, quit whining. Try not being able to wrap your arms around your wife, hold her hand or give her a kiss goodnight. It’s absolutely excruciating to be away from the one I love.

Erica has been my rock these last 3+ years and I know she’ll be my rock until the day I depart this earth. Erica, here’s to us and a fabulous 6 months of marriage. To end this diatribe, if you’ve never listened to the Dierks Bentley song “Soon as You Can,” look it up on youtube. I basically says that once you’ve find the one you want to spend the rest of your life with you want the rest of your life to happen as soon as you can! Well, I’ve found my One and Only and I can’t wait for the rest of my life with her!

Erica:

So, if you’re not gagging yet after reading Jamie’s “sappy” post, then surely you know this type of love.

My turn.  I feel giddy today knowing that we have successfully reached the six month mark of our marriage! I know that six months isn’t too big of a deal in the long run, but we’ve accomplished so much in such a short period of time that it’s hard not to celebrate (apart, that is). J

If you are a close friend of me and Jamie or rather just a frequent blog follower, you surely know that our first six months of being DeSpains together have been anything but normal, to say the least! Here’s a run-down:

–          Married January 15th in Seacrest Beach, Florida. TRULY the best day of my life! SUCH a blast.

–          Jamie flew back to Arizona to finish his Intelligence training

–          I went back to work teaching. Several people have told me that I as crazy for not quitting my job and moving with Jamie to Arizona, and though it felt terrible to be apart because I my job, I KNEW that he was deploying and would NEED my job to keep me going after he left. Shout-out to my former co-workers and fabulous students – y’all kept that smile on my face from deployment day #2. Miss you all more than you know!

–          Jamie drove cross-country alone to my parents house for 10 days in February

–          Moved Jamie to a hotel in Fort Campbell, Tennessee as we waited for his deployment date

–          Drove back and forth every weekend (and some weekdays) to see each other

–          Spent my Spring Break together in a tiny hotel room in Fort Campbell as we searched for a house

–          I notified my job that I was leaving at the end of the year

–          BOUGHT A BEAUTIFUL NEW HOME!

–          Furnished our home and purchased the basic necessities to host our families during the deployment weekend

–          Got a precious new dog, Teddy who I am embarrassingly obsessed with. He’s sleeping with his head on my leg as I type this. J

–          Jamie deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan

–          I got my new job as presenter for Rachel’s Challenge

–          Played the role of Matron of Honor for my sister and Josh’s wedding
–        WENT SKYDIVING!

–          Attended four weddings

–          Traveled to Birmingham, Denver, Tampa, Chattanooga, Atlanta, and Wilmington

It’s hard to say if the last six months have been the “greatest of my life” because I have thoroughly enjoyed being a wife and having a husband, but the truth is that I have found myself very envious of other newlyweds who get to enjoy a real honeymoon the day after a wedding, living together immediately, and actually living the newlywed life and all its madness. I’m not whining though, really, because we KNOW our time is coming to finally be together and we KNEW what we were getting ourselves into. His homecoming in February is going to beat our wedding day happiness – I AM SURE OF IT! That day will signify that we can finally be together, alone, in our house for more than a day. Our second year of marriage is going to feel like our first, and that’s a-okay with me. Jamie’s been planning our honeymoon (WAHOO!) for the end of February, and I’ve been cooking for family and friends every so often to “perfect” a few meals to cook for my hubby. J Our house is finally put together, so all Teddy and me are missing is Jamie.

Though our first six months hasn’t been “ideal” to most, I am still BEYOND thrilled that we got married when we did! I am so glad that I’m not planning a wedding right now. J Being apart has actually brought us CLOSER because we both are on 24/7 duty of supporting each other, truly listening to the other, and figuring out ways to make sure the other knows that they’re loved.

Okay, I wasn’t going to make this sappy like Jamie’s, but that’s totally what it turned in to. Sorry. 🙂
J-You are such a good man and a fantastic husband. Here’s to the next six months of being DeSpains together. We’re another day closer to you being HOME with me where you belong. I love you!

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
