It feels so good to be relaxing this morning! Not only are we resting up from a few days of being on the go, but I’m also catching my breath before a weekend of juggling bridesmaid and mommy duties. We’ll probably wipe out on Sunday when we get back to Madison, but it will all be worth it. I can’t wait to stand by my Ames’s side and see her get hitched!
A few days ago, I packed up Hadley’s and my things, borrowed my mom’s car, and headed a few hours south to see some of my very favorite people.
We were able to spend a quick night with my best friend Ashley in Birmingham before jetting off to Tuscaloosa the next morning. Hadley crashed early that night, so we enjoyed hours and hours of girl talk. We’d planned to watch The Bachelorette together, but just talking and laughing while sipping a couple glasses of wine was way more fun. I also got to feel the rain for the first time since March. It was heavenly.
The next morning we went down to visit my three-year college roommate Mary Elizabeth in Tuscaloosa. We spent the day playing with Hadley, catching up on a DVRed episode of The Bachelorette, and just talking like usual. I was so glad that I got to see her husband too before I had to leave. I hadn’t seen them since their wedding in December, so it was fun to visit them six months into their marriage and to see what a fun life they’ve already built together. You Prices are the cutest!
I wrapped up the trip back in Birmingham with a short visit with my brother David. He’s a leasing agent at a gorgeous apartment complex there in Birmingham off Lakeshore, and he’s also built quite the life for himself! He hadn’t seen Hadley since the end of January, and he couldn’t get over what a fun little human she’s turning into. Hadley was so into him the entire time; her smiles just melted him! We don’t get to spend much time together these days, so even just one day of brother/sister time really filled me up.
My only regret of the week was not getting to hug a few of my sorority sisters that also live there in Birmingham, but there was just so little time to squeeze everything in. A few more days would have been perfect!
One thing I learned from the last few days is that “just running to see a friend for the night” isn’t quite so easy anymore. An overnight trip used to consist of a small bag with a change of clothes and a few toiletries, but getting out the door this time around consisted of no less than three trips to get everything in the car. Who knew that somebody so little needed so much stuff?
All the hassle of packing our stuff in the car and traveling with Hadley was worth it to see the people that I love. I’ve always strongly believed in the idea of investing in people who invest in you, and sometimes that means making sacrifices and going out of your way to connect the dots and maintain relationships.
Successful week so far!
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
