Yesterday was one of those days. She had no temperature, a full belly, a clean diaper, and wasn’t teething (that I know of). Just cranky. Clingy. All day. Mommas, you know the kind of day I’m talking about.
By lunchtime I was already sitting at the kitchen table staring at the clock wondering how many more hours until bedtime. I hadn’t felt like this in months.
Seeing the exhaustion and frustration written all over my face, my sister smiled and made a comment along the lines of “you know all she wants is you.”
I’ve heard these words before from some of my other loved ones, but for some reason her words struck a nerve with me that day. I looked down at my daughter who had her arms wrapped around my legs who was looking up at me with crocodile tears in her eyes, and the look on her face silently said the same thing my sister had just said aloud.
Mom, all I want is you.
Mom, you’re the solution to every problem I have.
I want you, Mom.
So I scooped her up in my arms, grabbed five books that were sprawled across the living room, snuggled with her on the couch with a blanket, and we read books. All kinds.
And she wasn’t crying anymore. She was actually laughing as we played peekaboo with the blanket. She was giving me kisses back when I leaned in to give her some.
When she got restless we walked into her room, sat on the floor, and read more books. While she independently grabbed and flipped through books, I thought about how I’m able to fix just about every need she has.
I need food. I need my diaper changed. I need my pacifier. I’m bored. Every single need I have you can fix. I need you, Mom.
I want you.
Mom, someday I’ll want to play outside with my friends all day. But today all I want is you.
Someday I’ll want new toys, new games, new gadgets. But today all I want is you.
Someday I’ll want new clothes. New shoes. Social acceptance by my peers. To spend all my time with my friends or my boyfriend.
Someday I may want you to just leave me alone.
But not today, Mom. Today you can make everything in my world absolutely perfect.
Today all I want is your time, your attention.
You.

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
