Freshening Up the Laundry Room

My New Years week project last week was tackling the laundry room, and tackling is what I did!

I wasn’t planning on getting started on it so soon, but New Years morning found me plopped on the couch with the boys watching football while Hadley napped and Jennifer worked. I lasted all of 20 minutes with them and knew I needed something to do. I had all of the paint I needed to get started, so I threw my paint clothes on and got to work!

Here are some (messy messy messy) before shots.

I’ve been itching to touch up this area of the house simply because we see it all day. Not only is it our laundry room, but it’s also a walkway to the garage (to the left), the basement (also to the left), to the exterior side door of our house (to the left again), and a half bath (to the right).
We actually did part one of this update a few months ago when we traded out the interior brown doors for the white six-panel doors. Just updating the doors made a big difference!
The process for this touch-up was pretty simple. I took everything except the washer and dryer out, painted and caulked the trim, and finally painted two coats on the walls. The wall color is Benjamin Moore’s Palladian Blue (the same color we used in our sunroom).
Since I’ve had my color scheme in mind for weeks, I didn’t hesitate to scoop up this rug from Bed Bath and Beyond as soon as I saw it.
I like having a little bit of greenery or flowers in most rooms, but I’ll probably end up replacing that faux plant soon. The gold jar used to be an Anthropologie candle (my favorite!), but once the candle burned up I decided to clean it out and make it useful again. Now it’s the keeper of spare change we find in the dryer.
The letter “D” used to hand in our living room in our Tennessee house. It’s originally from Kirklands, but I scored it at a garage sale for $2 about four years ago.
That brown door is a super heavy exterior door that leads to our garage. It’s in great shape, so I’m planning on taking it down, replacing the brass hardware, and painting it black.
The camera makes these next few pictures look very green, but the color is more of a light teal-ish blue.
I had an extra coat hanger in the basement that the previous owners left, so I gave that a fresh coat of black spray paint and hung it up!
The door to the right of the coat hanger is the exterior door that leads out to our side patio area. It’s also in great shape but needs a paint job on both sides really bad. As soon as the weather warms up I’ll paint both exterior doors at the same time.
Here’s a look at the rest of my laundry room to-do list from my “dream home” book.
I think I’m done painting for a few weeks. Hadley’s room is up next, so I’m going to take the next month or so to figure out what we want to do and then get started sometime in February.
Hope you have a good weeks, friends! Thanks for reading.

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
