Well hey! I missed not popping in to say hello yesterday. The last 36 hours have been all about survival – Hadley had (has?) her first stomach bug (too early to tell since she’s not awake yet). No one warned me about just how traumatic it would be to watch your helpless 14 month old repeatedly vomiting like an adult, and I think Jamie and I are both a tad scarred from the sight of watching her throw up in our arms. The upchucking seems to have subsided, but now we’re dealing with the other end.
She may or may not have done her biz all over my carpet yesterday while I was getting her morning bath water ready. Yep. She did. Can’t make this stuff up.
So now I have a naked baby running around, poo on my hand from changing her messy changing pad, running bath water, and a mess on the carpet.
Oh, and a dog who was looking awfully interested in said mess on the floor.
TMI? I apologize.
what. a. monday.
Thankfully I have a rockstar hubby who helped me with her all night (and helped change her sheets/mattress pad/pajamas five times), got all of her sickness essentials from the store, brought me Sonic for dinner on his way home, and completely ignored that I looked like I’d been run over by a truck when he got home. Love him.
There’s a number of ways Hadley could have gotten this stomach bug because the four previous days were spent at a bunch of different places running around and having fun! Let’s do some weekend recapping.
There are few things better than one of your best friends fly half way across the country to visit you. Having Jessica here was the best!
I talked a little bit on Friday about her Wednesday arrival and the running around we did on Thursday.
Because there’s really a whole lot of nothing to do here in the winter (Kansas! Woooo!), we didn’t do anything too fancy on Friday either. Jessica’s awesome though because she didn’t expect me to entertain her a bit! She was perfectly happy hanging with Hadley and lounging around having girl talk like we always do. It’s kind of what we do best!
We both got in a workout at the gym Friday morning, grabbed breakfast at Panera, and then headed straight to open gym time at the local gymnastics center. We met a couple of my friends and their babes there and had fun chasing the littles around with the other million of mamas and babes that were there that morning too.
After gymnastics, we laid around the house for a few hours while Hadley napped before heading to the next town over to check out the Wizard of Oz museum. It looked like it might only be worth the money to people who are super into the Wizard of Oz, so we browsed the gift shop and booked it out of there. After making our way in and out of a cute little antique shop, we called it a day in Wamego and headed back to Manhattan to meet Jamie for dinner!
On Saturday we munched on some cinnamon rolls before heading to Kansas City for the day. It’s a two hour drive to the airport, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Hadley cackle in the backseat the whole time while she played with Jess. Music to my ears!!
We grabbed a quick lunch at The Legends area and said our see ya laters at the airport. I’ll see Jessica again next month when I’m en route to and from Alabama, so our goodbye was easier knowing that it’s only for a few weeks.
We dropped her off around noon and then decided to stayed in Kansas City and soak up the gorgeous day. We played at Ikea for a while, and I was actually super impressed! I’ve always heard people say that it’s kind of a let down, but I thought the products and the layout were fabulous. I wanted to take home every duvet cover and every throw pillow.
I walked away with only some little Kassett boxes (that of course I had to put together in true Ikea fashion) to organize my craft materials in, and that was about it.
This craft disorganization needed some lovin’!
After we left Ikea we headed downtown to the aquarium. The aquarium was nothing to write home about, but Hadley loved seeing the fish, and we loved watching her love the fish. Our military discount got us tickets for $10/adult, but I’m not sure it would be worth going and paying the full $22/person. Just a heads up!
The best part about the aquarium was the area of town it’s in! It was a gorgeous 70 degree day, so we spent a ton of time letting Hadley run around the grassy area outside. She was enthralled by the dancing water and man-made outdoor ice skating rink.
Inside a nearby building we caught a few minutes of a big Lego-building competition (those tween boys were intense!) and shared a couple smoothies before heading down to my in-laws for a couple hours. We grabbed dinner with them and hit the road back home.
On Sunday, I got up and had an amazing run outside. I usually try to avoid running outside in the winter because I semi hate running in the cold, but Sunday morning was gorgeous! Running through along a nearby trail listening to this song while seeing this view made for a perfect 30 minutes that I thoroughly enjoyed all to myself!
Later that morning we went to church and then got our minds right to knock out a ton of house work. In addition to 88 loads of laundry, Jamie washed and waxed the salt off of both of our cars while I fixed up our front exterior doorway. We recently took down the old, broken glass door, but it left the frame looking like it had been attacked by the madman. We don’t have any of that crimson paint left from the previous owners, so I painted the frame the same color as the house and am tapping my foot waiting for another warm day so that I can paint our front door as well. I think a solid black will really make our front porch pop! Thoughts? Suggestions? I also can’t wait to add a colorful outdoor rug and some plants. Come on Spring!
So it’s now 8:10, Hadley’s awake, and the stomach bug is definitely still in full force. I feel so bad for her! 🙁 Here’s to another day canceled plans and snuggling on the couch watching Mickey.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
