A Change of Plans

Hello from sweet home Alabama! Hadley and I will be hanging around down south at my parent’s house for a few weeks while Jamie’s tied up with his Army biz, but our trip is shaping up to look quite different than we imagined!

My mom gave me a ring Thursday morning with news that she’d basically shattered her right ankle after tripping up the backyard steps and that her injury required next-morning surgery. Hadley and I already had the Jeep loaded down ready to make the 800 mile trip, but instead of splitting the trip up over 48 hours, we immediately hit the road around noon Thursday and were home by lunchtime Friday. I couldn’t get home fast enough!
After driving the bulk of the trip Thursday, we crashed with Jessica & Nick in Clarksville that night. During a pit stop in St. Louis for dinner while I was trying to juggle gas, Hadley’s dinner, Teddy’s dinner, my dinner, and bathroom breaks for everybody, she sent me this text that has “best friend” written all over it. She JUST KNEW I need her words of encouragement at that very moment.
We crashed hard around midnight and hit the road by 10ish Friday morning. I was able to unpack my car and get things picked up around the house by the time my mom, dad, and sister rolled in later that afternoon. Since Jennifer is the very best nurse in the entire world (no kidding), she hit the road from south Alabama as soon as Mom got news she was having surgery, and she’s done a fabulous job the last 48 hours managing Mom’s pain, keeping her leg elevated, etc. She just left to head back home so that she can go to work tonight, and we miss her already! I forgot to mention that Hadley lit up like a Christmas tree when she saw Jenn. It was precious!
My aunt booked a one-way ticket to also help out around the house, so I’m fixing to leave in a just a few minutes to scoop her up from the airport. It’s going to be really nice to have an extra set of hands to help mom out once Dad goes back to work Monday. I know I could take care of Mom & Hadley if I needed to without a doubt, but having my aunt around is going to be so helpful!

The stinky parts of this whole ankle thing are obvious. Our much-anticipated three weeks together are going be really different than we were expecting and highly looking forward to. We had so much planned! (I know. First world problems.) The bright side is that the timing is too perfect. Mom has to be off of her feet for a minimum of four weeks and needs a bunch of help, so if I wasn’t already planning on driving down for a few weeks I’d have come on down anyway. I’m thankful that we’re at a quiet place in our lives right now that I’m able to spend so much time with my fam.
We are missing Jamie a ton (Hadley can’t stop saying da da!), but we know he’s preoccupied with his obligations just like we are! Our reunion in April will be sweet sweet sweet.
Sorry about the radio silence this past week! Hoping to pop in here and say hello a little bit more often next week.

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
