Milestone birthday ideas: This inexpensive gift idea is designed to make your loved one feel celebrated and loved by friends and family all over the world!
You guys! I received news yesterday morning that had me bouncing off the walls! I’m so (so so so so) excited!
One of you incredible readers nominated this post and set of photos to receive BlogHer’s “Voices of the Year” award, and it was selected as one of the top honorees! I was so shocked when I got the email that I thought it was spam! Ha! I’m humbled and thrilled and surprised and just plain excited to get to NYC this summer to soak up this opportunity and be in the presence of some really great trail-blazing bloggers and authors. Whoop! If you were the one who nominated me, I’d love to hug you and just say thanks!
Milestone Birthday Ideas
Anyway! Let’s get to today’s post. If you have a loved one who has a milestone birthday coming up and you’re looking to do something a little special, I might just have one of the best milestone birthday ideas!
A few weeks ago my mother-in-law turned the big 5-0 (though she doesn’t look a day over 40 honestly!), and I’d been brainstorming for weeks how to make her day/week/month a little more memorable. After browsing Pinterest over and over again for creative ideas, I decided to combine a few ideas that fit what I was looking for and quickly got to work!
I ordered 4″x6″postcards from Vistaprint.com that looked like this on the front…
…and this on the back.
I went ahead and put stamps on them and stuffed them into colorful envelopes ready to head out to all of her family and friends. I also included a note in each envelope that explained to everyone what I was doing. Basically I asked each recipient to think of his or her favorite memory with Tonya, write it on the postcard, and mail it to her by a specific date.
I debated having everyone mail them back to me so that I could present them to her all at once, but I thought it would be more fun for her mailbox to get flooded several days in a row with sweet words from her loved ones.
Sure enough almost everyone played along and showed her lots of love and gave her tons of laughs.
I also bought her this 4″x6″ photo album to put all of the postcards in so that she has a nice organized place to keep these memories for years to come.
I spilled the beans a few days early that she should expect a little bit of fun mail in the days to come. She told me she loved it!
Have you ever done anything like this before? They are so many fun ways to personalize it!

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
