Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
What’s Up Wednesday (5/27/15)
By the looks of our calendar, this month is trying its best to go out with a bang! We have been running 90 to nothin’ around here the last week or so, but if you know me personally you know that I thrive on a little bit of busyness. Since becoming a mom I more often than not have days with zero planned and just go with the flow, so it’s sort of a nice change of pace to have a bunch of random commitments on the calendar.
To ease back into the swing of things around here, I’m linking up with Shay from Mix and Match Mama and Mel from The Larson Lingo and participating in their light-hearted “What’s Up Wednesday” by answering the following prompts.
What’s we’re eating this week…
I don’t have any kind of meal plan set for this week, so we’ll probably just wing it every night until I can hit the grocery store again later this week. I have the majority of our staples on hand, so I’ll probably use my go-to site allrecipes.com to find a dinner recipe using what we already have. Have you used this site before? It’s my favorite! Click “search by ingredient” in the top left-hand corner and go from there. Voila!
What I’m reminiscing about…
All of my TimeHop pictures the last few days have been from our first family vacation as a family of three that we took last year to San Diego. Taking that vacation with our six month old was a great idea. We made the sweetest memories!
What I’m loving…
I’m loving that The Bachelorette is back on! In fact, loving is an understatement. 🙂
What we’ve been up to…
We spent Memorial Day weekend in Indianapolis with Jamie’s relatives and had a really nice long weekend soaking up time with everybody. The weather was gorgeous, so we spent a good chunk of time on Jamie’s grandmother’s back porch. Almost the whole family was together, so a good time was had by all! We missed you Holly & Bren!
What I’m dreading…
It’s definitely time to get rid of Hadley’s bottle… noooooo! She wakes up every morning begging for it. It’s a total comfort thing, so this might be a tough one!
What I’m working on…
I’m so close to having the whole upstairs painted – trim and all (it’s only taken me nine months…). I painted our half bath last week and am hoping to get around to Hadley’s bathroom sometime next week. The trim is already done, so the walls shouldn’t take me too long.
What I’m excited about…
I booked our flights and hotel for the BlogHer 2015 conference yesterday, so we’re officially set to head to New York in July! I am bouncing off the walls with excitement to run around New York again and attend this incredible conference. If you’ll be at the conference, please let me know! I’d love to meet you!
What I’m watching/reading…
After reading a ton of recommendations about , I finally bought it and am about a quarter of the way through it. So far, so good! People say that if you loved Gone Girl (which I did) that you’ll love A Girl on the Train. I’ll get back to you on this one. Have you read it?
What I’m listening to…
Lately we’ve been loving the Y2Kountry station on XM radio. Every song seems to have a memory behind it! I’m constantly telling Jamie stories about middle school and high school that the songs remind me of, and he does a good job of humoring me and listening. 😉
What I’m wearing…
Lately I’ve been living in my new KUT from the Kloth (my first pair of jorts in years!) and some kind of comfy plain fitted tee. These shorts couldn’t be more comfortable! I love that the cuff can be rolled up or down depending on what look I’m in the mood for.
What I’m looking forward to next month…
I’m pumped about our swim lesson double dates with Meg and Jack, seeing friends in Colorado, and Jessica having Mia!
What we’re doing this weekend…
We’re hosting a big get together at our house on Saturday and really looking forward to it!
What else is new…
We snipped Hadley’s wubbanub (cue the tears)! This pacifier has honestly been her best friend since birth, but a couple weeks ago I cut off the tip of it as I choked back the biggest lump in my throat. I’ve read over and over that the soothie-type pacifier is so bad for her mouth development at this age, plus she was starting to get her fingers stuck in it. It was definitely time for it to go, but I think it actually hurt Jamie and me more than Hadley. We were prepared for some long nights while she adjusted to bedtime without it, but she hasn’t seemed to miss it. If you know what an extremely tough time we’ve had with getting Hadley to sleep through the night, you know that this is a big deal!
She loved her Wubbanub at three months old just as much as 17 months old. I never thought my heart would ache as much as it did cutting a pacifier. Holy mama roller coaster of emotions!
What we enjoy grilling the most in June…
We’re big fans of coating chicken breasts with olive oil and McCormick’s taco seasoning and then throwing them on the grill. Last summer 95% of our dinners came off the grill, and I’m hoping we keep that up again this summer too.
What’re your favorite things to put on the grill? We usually stick to chicken, ground turkey burgers, and steak, but last summer we branched out and tried pizza and black bean burgers. I’d love to hear what y’all enjoy grilling up!
