Slice of Life – 6/3/15

Hump Day! This week is flying by! The only “big” thing on our calendar this week is swimming lessons Monday through Thursday, but other than that I am loving the down time to relax.
Here’s a little slice of our lives the last couple of weeks.
Hadley came with me to my recent dental cleaning and did as well as she could have. 🙂 She sat in the chair with a book for five minutes, then watched Mickey on my cell phone for five minutes, and then realized she’d had it with sitting down and wanted to investigate what they were doing to me. She stood by my side on her tip toes the rest of the time and watched as my hygienist cleaned my teeth. I was very proud of her for being so good!
When I was doing dishes the other day, I turned around to see Hadley walking into the kitchen holding her diaper! I died laughing and had to snap a picture. I immediately called my mom who was quick to say that I was in so much trouble if Hadley kept that up. Ha! 😉 Thankfully she hasn’t tried to do it again.
At Jamie’s recent Hail & Farewell they had horse and trailer rides for people to take around post if they wanted to. We hopped on for the 20 minute ride and enjoyed hanging with the other couples onboard!

Jamie was farewelled from his job at headquarters and started his first day as his shop’s S2 yesterday! I’ll really miss my wonderful coffee group but hope to meet some fun new people in his new battalion.

On our way to Indianapolis a couple weekends ago Jamie and his dad grabbed milkshakes from Arby’s. I asked Jamie if Hadley could have a sip, and that was a huge mistake! She’d never had a milkshake before but since it combined two of her favorite things (straws and ice cream), she was in love!
This was her poor pitiful face when I would try to give it back to Jamie! Her feelings were so hurt. I know it might seem mean to snap a picture, but we couldn’t help but crack up. She ended up winning that battle and Jamie got another milkshake at the next exit. 😉

I love this four-generation picture!
Jamie’s grandmother (we called her Mamaw) is so special. We love her so much! On our last afternoon at her house she plopped Hadley’s into this wheelbarrow and strolled her up and down the street ringing all of her neighbor’s doorbells so that they’d come out to see her great-granddaughter. It was precious to watch.

This isn’t a great picture, but I tried to get the best one I could as quick as I could! On our way home from dinner one night in Indy Mamaw was trying to hold Hadley’s hand, but she was too amazed by Mamaw’s veins and skin. Seeing Hadley’s sweet little baby hands playing with Mamaw’s elderly hands was a really cool “circle of life” moment. Maybe you had to be there, but it was really sweet.

On our way home to Kansas City Jamie came thisclose to hitting this turtle. Since we were driving on a quiet road, he suggested we turn around to save it (the road it quiet but not that quiet). Once we stopped we realized just how big this guy was! Hadley has recently learned to say the word “turtle”, so we were excited to show her a real turtle (instead of just her sandbox turtle). After we let Hadley look at him Jamie picked him up and brought him back to a nearby pond about a football field away.
One rainy day last week we went with Meg & Jack to Going Bonkers to Topeka! It’s a lot like the old Discovery Zones used to be, and we seriously had a blast. All of us were completely wiped out when we left. We will definitely be back!

Since the Army gave the guys this past Monday off of work, the Landers came over for an afternoon of food and hang out time on Sunday. This picture perfectly captures Hadley and Jack’s friendship right now. They’re both in the stage where sharing is kind of a hard thing to figure out, so Meg & I are doing our best to just let them be their age and figure it out.
Another perk to Jamie being off of work on Monday was that he got to join us for Hadley’s first day of swim lessons! She is absolutely loving it and is smiles from start to finish. I think she’s loving it so much because she had the chance to get used to the pool when we were at the beach a few weeks ago. Seeing these two have so much fun together left my heart in a puddle. Love them.
She’s doing so much better with going all the way under the water (and by “so much better” I mean not swallowing a ton of water).

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
