Slice of Life – 8/31/15

Hello! Happy Monday! I hope you had a good weekend. It’s currently 6:03 a.m. and I’m trying my best to get back in routine of soaking up my “golden hour” before Hadley wakes up to get my day going. For the longest time I didn’t wake up until I heard her crying around 7 a.m., but hopping out of bed half asleep to grab her from her crib day after day just wasn’t starting my day off on the right foot. I’ve been enjoying the morning quiet time to slowly get out of bed on my own and knock out a few things before my little tornado wakes up. 🙂
We haven’t been up to anything fancy lately except spending time with family and friends and trying to get out and about as much as possible to enjoy the end of summer. Here’s a quick slice of our lives lately!
Jamie took Hadley and Teddy on a walk one day a couple weeks ago without me so that I could have 15 minutes to fold some laundry in peace and quiet (every parent needs quiet time!), and this is what I saw when they were walking in. I was standing at the dryer and grabbed my phone immediately! Sippy cup of milk + heart sunglasses + Teddy’s stuffed animal = totally toddler diva. She kills me.

“Look! Hadley’s coming to work with me today!” Don’t let her face fool you. She thought this was awesome!

We treated ourselves to DQ blizzards last Friday night, and Hadley got her own. 🙂 The toddler and the deck both got a good scrubbin’ a few minutes after this picture was taken. She’s an ice cream nut like her mama!

We are so into blankets (or “bankies”) right now. She never had a “lovey” that she became obsessed with, but she’s full-blown obsessed with her soft blankets. When I told her that it was nap time, she gathered three blankets from the living room and marched her way back. These blankets come with us everywhere and get washed OFTEN (but don’t let her see you put one of them in the washing machine or she will kind of lose her mind on you).

She loves picking flowers at the park for “Meggie” and “Jackie” 🙂

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you may have seen pictures from my father-in-law’s Army retirement ceremony last Thursday. He served nine years in the reserves and 20 years active, but in a couple weeks his time in uniform will officially come to a close. We were so glad that we could be at Fort Leavenworth to attend.

In attendance for the ceremony, from left to right, were Jamie’s great-aunt and uncle, his mom, his grandmother, and the three of us.

After the ceremony, Jamie’s parents participated in a receiving line, so I took Hadley to run around outside and in the hallways. When we came back in the main room, she spotted them in the line and went over to check out what they were doing! At one year old she’s already semi-participated in her first (of potentially many) receiving lines.

On Saturday I took Hadley to see Frozen on Ice in Kansas City at the Sprint Center. I won two tickets at our MOPS open house last Tuesday, and I was SO EXCITED! Though we wished Jamie could have come along, it was a very fun mother/daughter date. As soon as the show started she lit up and her eyes never left the ice rink for two hours! She didn’t try to sing along or act super goofy or anything, but her constantly amazed facial expressions let me know that she absolutely loved it! We’ll definitely try to do these things again in the future now that we know it’s totally worth the money!

If you’re wondering what’s up with her lips, they’re indeed scraped and bruised. She tripped over her own feet the day before and ate the concrete. Thankfully her teeth were okay and she only cried for a minute. She gives me a heart attack!

A couple days ago we were at my in-laws and noticed some people picking these “weeds” a few streets over in the construction area. I love sunflowers, so I threw my shoes on and went over to pick my own!

These free flowers already look great on my kitchen table!

We made a quick trip to Trader Joe’s while we were in Kansas City, and all it did was make me wish we had one nearby like it always does! Hadley enjoyed pushing her own cart for the first time, but the amount of times I had to politely say “sorry!” to the people around us was endless. Thankfully they humored us and didn’t give me any obvious stink faces when she almost ran over their toes. 😉

Last night we scooped up my sister and Josh from the airport! They’re here until Wednesday and we are so (so so so) happy to have them! It’ll be the last time the guys are together for about a year, so we’re going to try our best to soak up every minute together.

Let’s chat!
1.) Do you share my love of Trader Joe’s?!
2.) What do you have going on this week?

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
