Popping in today with an interior home update!
If you’ve been a reader around here for a while, you may remember that I used to have home project posts weekly, but now that we’ve been settled into our home for over 15 months, we’ve slowed our roll a bit with the improvements.
Though my list of home improvement ideas runs a mile long, we’re really content with the “life” we’ve brought our home and moving forward are just going to focus on a short list of “must do” tasks before we put the house on the market (as early as next summer – what?!).
Today I want to give you a peek into a couple changes we’ve made to our master bedroom.
Here’s what the room looked when we closed back in September of 2014. It was the only room in the house to have newer white trim, and it’s still the only room that has crown molding.
A few months later it looked a bit more updated with fresh paint, new blinds, and a new six-panel white door.
Here’s how things look today!
I hung up some inexpensive curtains I found at Marshall’s, but I’m still casually browsing for a great deal on thicker, lined white curtains. I’d love one panel for each side and to add a tie-back to droop them on.
We got a king-sized bed back in September, but with a new mattress requires a new frame, mattress pad, sheets, pillows, bed skirt, and more! We had our work cut out for us to find all of these items for a deal. I scored the frame, mattress cover, bed skirt, and quilt on Amazon. I’m not 100% sure what I want to do about bedding (quilt vs. duvet vs. comforter set), so I wanted to stick with a thin, versatile white quilt until I stumble upon something more permanent.
One day I’ll prioritize refinishing our dressers. 🙂
The very best part of this room is our new wingback tufted headboard that we were gifted for Christmas. I’ve always dreamed of having a headboard this style, and I’m still just so tickled about it! I found it on Wayfair.com and am thrilled with the look and the quality. Putting it all together only took about 30 minutes, and one of my girlfriends kindly brought her husband over to help me attach it to the bed frame. Easy peasy! So in love!
We’re forever on the hunt for nightstands, but one day we’ll find a quality pair that we like for a price that we love. Until then, we’re okay with just the one.
I love this print that Jamie gifted me last year for our anniversary. Check out the date at the top! Yep – we met eight years ago on a blind date that would change our lives forever. 🙂
At the top of my Christmas wish list this year was a quality memory foam topper. My parents have one on their guest bed at their home that I sleep on when I visit, and I always feel like I’m sleeping on a cloud at their house. I’ve wanted my own for a while, but I’ve never been able to justify spending the money on one (they’re unfortunately not cheap). Ever since I was gifted this one, I actually love getting into bed at night.
Besides always keeping my eyes peeled for nightstands, my next task is to find decor to hang above the bed. I’ve been eyeing from Target for a month (I’m considering hanging three of them next to each other), but I’m not totally sure yet. I’m also always casually browsing light fixture ideas. That outdated fan is such a riot. It has got to go! 🙂

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
