Father’s Day Weekend 2016

What. A. Weekend. A fun, simple, exhausting, comedic weekend!

I’m typing this up on Sunday night with Jamie by my side watching the final NBA game (which means The Bachelorette returns tomorrow – wheeeee!), and it feels great to sink into the couch for a bit with my love by my side and do a little bit of mindless typing. We had so much fun as a family this weekend, but whoa… sometimes tending to the constant feeding/bathroom/entertainment needs of a two month old and 2.5 year old will knock you on your tail!

{the absolute loves of my life on Father’s Day}

We headed an hour east to Topeka Saturday to run an afternoon full of errands, and we were quickly reminded why sticking close to home when you have a baby is THE BEST/ONLY IDEA. I could tell stories for DAYS about our Topeka adventure, but let’s just say that by the end of the day Jamie and I were both actually in tears laughing from what a semi-train wreck our “simple” afternoon of errand-running became.

I’d say that five out of seven days a week, having two kids feels like no big deal. I’m tending to their needs all day of course, but it’s simple and fun and full of all the big wonderful feelings of raising these two precious babies.

The other two days a week leave me with a little less hair and a glass of wine in my hand by dinner time.

Seriously though, the image below captures everything I love about this season of life now that Jamie is home. The simplicity of weekend mornings. Traditional Father’s Day chocolate chip pancakes. Family time around the table.

These really are the days.

Sunday morning found all of us scrambling to get ready for church after spending too much time cooking and playing, but somehow we made it to our seats with seconds until the music started. We joined our best buds for brunch before speeding the meal up and racing home with a baby who was overtired and ready to eat. Hadley, Sadie, and I slept all afternoon while Jamie puttered around the house washing cars, cutting the grass, and cleaning out some clothes (love him). I felt so guilty that that’s how he spent his Father’s Day afternoon, but I think he secretly enjoyed the peace. 🙂

I cooked him a big Blue Apron meal of his choosing for dinner, and we ended the night out on the back deck as a family relaxing before tackling bath time and bedtime. Now we’re here on the couch together enjoying the quiet house, but neither of us can help but glance over at Sadie in her swing making noises and talking about how much we love her.

Hadley gave Jamie the ultimate Father’s Day gift tonight when he was tucking her into her bed (her airbed by the way since we’re dealing with major nighttime potty issues, but that’s a story for another day!) – She said “I love you too Daddy” clear as day after he said “I love you”. It was amazing. I had a very happy husband.

I have a ton of girlfriends here at Fort Riley (as well as other posts around the world) who missed their babies’ daddies this weekend, and my heart was pretty heavy for them today. Here I am taking for granted having Jamie by my side, but I know dang well that if he were gone overseas that I would have missed him like crazy and today would have felt sad. I can’t wait for my friends to get their guys back. I cannot wait. So soon, my friends. So soon.

To Jamie – You are an incredible father. I hope I (we) did an okay job making you feel special and loved this weekend because you truly deserve it. You are adored and so very loved.

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
