When Jamie and I were talking about what we wanted to do this summer, it didn’t take long to figure out that we both were craving simplicity and a couple of very low-key months. We haven’t been on any fancy vacations or done anything worth writing home about, but we’re really thankful for these slow days to soak up our girls as we get readjusted post deployment & post baby.
Here’s our most recent slice of life from these “slow” days that we’re immensely enjoying. 🙂
Last week I had to be gone for the evening at MOPS steering committee event, so I made sure to snuggle both of my girls before heading out the door.
On June 18th, our little peanut hit the two month mark. 🙂 Sadie was in the 4th percentile for weight when she was born, but she’s chunked up to the 52nd percentile as of her check-up last week! This little piggy loves to eat! We adore her.
Pictured here are all of Hadley’s favorite things: “Purple” (her blanket), all of her Little People (who ALL have a name that she’s given them), her , a basket to carry around her people, and of course her two piggies (the beloved potholders). She carries all of this around all day. It’s excessive.
Hadley’s best friend Jack turned three last week, and we had fun celebrating with him that morning splashing around at the Blue Earth Plaza. Watching these two grow together is one of my favorite things in the world.
Our recent murderously-hot heat wave resulted in a lot of indoor play time (and a power 3.5 times higher than the previously month’s – yikes!). This girl has to be watched like a hawk when she paints. If it were up to her, the entire house and all of our belongings would be her canvas!
I can turn down cookies, cake, candy, salty foods, anything… but I cannot turn down ice cream. Ever. We don’t even keep it in the house because I would eat it all. 😉 I spotted this Halo Top ice cream in the health food section of our grocery store and was intrigued by the low calorie count. I expected it to taste watered down, but I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it is! Not only is it low in calories, but it’s high in protein and low in sugar and fat. My favorite flavors are mint chocolate chip and cake batter. Try it!
More Sadie snuggles. This is my favorite part of the newborn/infant stage.
At least a couple days each week this summer we’ve been in the water either at the local city splash pad, this pictured downtown water area, or the city pool. Our little 2.5 year old fish would live in the pool all summer if she could. 🙂
Last Friday I met my sweetest friend Kelsey on post to keep her company while she waited to reunite with her husband John at his homecoming ceremony! I also took their pictures and a video of their reunion. These ceremonies never get old! The energy is incredible, and I cried big ugly tears watching Kelsey run to John. Grateful beyond words for my Army girlfriends who seem to become more like family every day.
Sadie and I got to enjoy a few quiet hours together last weekend while Jamie took Hadley out for a daddy/daughter afternoon. Sadie’s favorite thing to do (besides eat – duh) is to hang outside. Me too, girlfriend.
That smile, that double chin, that obnoxiously big hair bow, that smocked outfit. I cannot handle it!
We’re three weeks into Blue Apron, and we are loving it. Jamie took over preparing this steak meal and served us each a marg or two to go with it. SO GOOD. 🙂
Who knew small-town Manhattan, Kansas would have such a legit community pool?! If I were a kid, I would be in Heaven too!
Dinner and drinks on the back deck have totally become our thing this summer. Adding friends to the mix is the occasional cherry on top! On this particular night Hadley and Jack didn’t waste a SECOND diving into homemade pizza and cookies.
I hope you have a beautiful holiday weekend! We’re planning to attend a festival in a neighboring town on Monday, but otherwise we’ll be lounging. See you Tuesday!

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
