Happy Friday, friends! Popping in briefly this morning from my in-law’s home in Dripping Springs (Austin), Texas! Jamie has a four-day weekend for Labor Day, so we made the decision a couple weeks ago to make the big trip down to spend time with family. We’re happy to be here and are looking forward to a fun weekend!
We left yesterday (Thursday) morning at 3:15 a.m. (yaaawwwnn), but we wanted to get as many miles under our belts as possible while Sadie slept. We don’t do well driving through the night, so we figured getting a few hours of sleep and hitting the road early was our next best option!
We stopped every 2.5 – 3 hours to use the bathroom, gas up the car, feed Sadie, and walk Teddy. We brought Hadley’s potty chair along to use at my in-law’s house, so we used it at our stops as well instead of dragging Hadley into bathrooms where she’s tempted to touch everything.
We had enjoyable stops at a McDonald’s play place and at a Texas truck stop called Bucee’s (the brand new one near Fort Worth is SO NICE), but we also had to pull off at one point behind a fire station in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma because nature called for the girls, Ted wanted to run around, and Sadie wanted to eat. True life, folks.
I’ve always been pretty honest that our travels with kids have been primarily about gritting our teeth and surviving, but the girls were incredible yesterday. Hadley was thrilled to watch movies all day on her Kindle and Sadie snoozed after almost every feeding. It was actually a really fun family day, and I usually never say that about road trips with kids! Hadley is at such a hilarious age, and her constant banter with us keeps us laughing nonstop!
One of the perks of hitting the road so early is that we still had several hours of daylight left to hang all together before dinner, bath time, and hitting the hay.
Sadie finally got to meet her Uncle B! Brendon is Jamie’s younger brother, and we couldn’t wait for them to meet.
Looking forward to a fun weekend before getting back on the road Monday! Next week is going to be a doozy, so we’re excited to soak up some relaxation while we can. Hope you have a nice holiday weekend as well! xoxo
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
