Hey friends! The girls and I are having a welcomed lazy morning around here today and are looking forward to seeing Hadley’s PAT teacher for her monthly visit shortly. Sadie is bouncing in her jumper (she started really loving it last weekend!) and Hadley is glued to Paw Patrol (also a new favorite for her), and I think my heart just needs this outlet this morning to do some typing.
We’re doing pretty good around here. Hadley is mostly back to normal. We checked in with her pediatrician last Friday per the recommendation of the doctors at the children’s hospital, and he said that she is in great shape. We were relieved to hear that her lungs sounded so good and that she’s free of infection (like pneumonia) that often occurs after an accident like this.
I hate typing the word accident. I hate that she had an accident. Sometimes I have to ask myself if it really happened – if it was all real or actually just a dream. My heart as her mom is still struggling a bit, but I’m all set to start meeting with a therapist next week to get some help sorting through everything going on in my head. It’s hard because Hadley is physically so fine, and I’m praising Jesus for this constantly, so I feel weirdly embarrassed for still struggling so much. The flashbacks of the scene, the guilt of taking my eyes off of her, and the what-ifs are daily struggles, and I’m thankful for the pushing from family, friends, and my husband to seek counseling. I know that this is the right move in the healing process and becoming a healthier me.
It’s all just been a whirlwind, you guys. Whirl. Wind. Is this too raw to share? I’ve always kept things so real in this space, so finding the balance of keeping this a positive place, sharing real stories, but also keeping things private for my family is going to be a new task.
I’d love to share some happy pictures that I’ve taken since we got home from the hospital. Life doesn’t stop when something like this happens, and in this case, that’s a good thing.
Hadley started year #2 of her Children’s Day Out program. She has three good friends in her class that made her excited from the second she first walked in. She has such an outgoing and independent personality, and I’m so thankful she loves school as much as she does.
My mom flew to Texas to be with us after everything happened and stayed with us an additional five days while we transitioned back into our routines, including Jamie going back to work. We celebrated her birthday while she was here with a hideous homemade cake, but we loved on her as much as we could and I think she felt it. I truly couldn’t have gotten through our first week home without her. She was my sounding board and my safe place to fall, especially when Jamie was back at work.
The two small loves of my life.
Sadie had her four month appointment and shots (even though she’s almost five months old), and she’s weighing in at a whopping 17 pounds (85%). I love love love this big girl.
On Saturday morning I snuggled with my girls in bed for a solid hour. Best way to start the weekend.
On Saturday we also checked out Fort Riley’s Apple Days festival. Here we are with Hadley in a Black Hawk helicopter. She loved it!
The Kansas state flower has bloomed, so we took advantage of having Mom around and snapped some pictures before taking her to the airport.
Hadley and one of her sweet friends Lauren started dance this week, and Lauren’s mom Sarah and I were squealing the entire time. These girls loved having each other in class and they soaked up the entire (brief) 25 minute class. Mondays are my new favorite day because of dance. I already can’t wait until her next class!
Hadley threw a small fit on Tuesday morning because she wanted to wear her purple outfit (the outfit below) to school, and obviously that wasn’t in the cards. 😉 I love this girly girl more than I can put into words.
Have a good rest of the week, and thanks for letting me share these pictures (and some raw emotion) with you.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
