Unless we’re on vacation, I very rarely ever say that I don’t want a day to end. But I didn’t want Saturday to end. It was the sweetest day.
Let me back up. On Friday I had plans to throw a Christmas party with about 15 of my girlfriends here in Kansas. I was pumped, and so were they! Nearly all of them are moving with military orders next summer, so I wanted to throw a big festive shindig while we’re all still here together. We had an activity planned, a full menu of food and drinks prepared, decorations, even a photo booth… but at 6 p.m. (two hours before the party) the temperature started dropping much faster than anticipated. The roads were freezing from the rain that had fallen that day, and some people expressed concern about getting out. A mixture of freezing rain and snow would surely be falling by the time the party ended. No good!
I talked with a few friends who planned to come, and they agreed that canceling was necessary for everyone’s safety. Obviously I was super bummed at how it all turned out, but you can’t control the weather, and that’s the risk of throwing events in the wintertime in Kansas. Bah Humbug! I spent the evening packing up the party and agreed to wake up happy and hit reset as we kicked off two full weeks of leave for Jamie! That’s something I can cheer too. 🙂
So back to Saturday, my favorite day. 🙂 We really didn’t do anything special except soak up a very slow, snowy day as a family. We were able to workout together, watch movies on the floor in the light of the Christmas tree, play together, do a little bit of blogging (which I immensely enjoy!), munch on party food, and end the night sipping sangria that was prepped for the party (somebody had to drink it!) Sadie actually spiked a fever at the end of the day thanks to what her doctor assumed was a viral infection, but even her fussiness couldn’t damper our good moods.
It’s hard to gripe about the cold weather when it makes it feel very much like Christmastime. 🙂 I really kind of love it for this time of year (but you can bet you’ll find me griping about it when it gets ridiculously cold again in January or February).
Jamie agreed to do T25 Beta round with me every day during his leave since I don’t enjoy doing home workouts alone, so we did the first workout while Sadie jumped in her bouncer and Hadley squeezed between us attempting the workout too. One thing I like about working out in the morning is that those endorphins get going and set the tone for a happier day.
The snow fell constantly throughout the day, the sun hid, and the wind whipped, so this was truly the perfect Saturday to stay in comfy clothes and relax as a family without the temptation to run around town.
Because Jamie is a rockstar (and way cooler than me sometimes), he agreed to take Hadley out in the snow for a quick 10-15 minutes (that wind was painful.) I had just purchased her new snow boots (on sale for $21) and snow pants ($17) from Target last week, so those came in handy. I highly recommend them! Her layers underneath were totally dry and warm.
Love having cool neighbors across the street. Hey Marcy! Ha. 🙂
Sunday looked a lot like Saturday, except the temperature was sitting at -10 when we woke up. I opened the back door and stepped out just to feel what that felt like. It hurt!
Sadie was much more unsettled on Sunday, so we tried to keep her comfortable while enjoying snow day #2.
On Sunday night we decided to eat dinner together on the living room floor so that we could be with our sick Sadie, and out of nowhere she started crawling! She’d been “in position” to crawl and scooting around on her belly for weeks, but Sunday was the first time she finally started moving her hands and feet correctly together. Nothing like mama’s homemade pizza to get this girl to move. 😉
Sadie made it easy for us to remember when she started crawling because she did so on the day she hit eight months big!
Happy eight months to our big girl! She decided that homemade pizza was enough motivation tonight to start crawling all over the living room. 😜She has three teeth, weighs 20 lbs, and thinks her big sis hung the moon! She’s had more colds than we can count and really stinks at sleeping, but gosh… she brings us more joy than we know what to do with!
On Monday we all had a bit of cabin fever, so we put the girls in their Christmas dresses and ran over to the mall to visit Santa. Hadley held my hand and actually dragged me faster into the mall to see him, but as soon as she actually saw him, she freaked out. We were able to get Hadley to sit on his lap, and once she did she surprised us by being very comfortable. She told Santa she wanted a horse in her living room on Christmas morning.
We walked over to a new restaurant in town for lunch, The Blue Moose Bar and Grill, and enjoyed it. We very rarely go out to eat because it often just feels like work, but Hadley is hitting an age where she’s behaving really well in restaurants, and Sadie surprised us by being the happiest little peanut.
I hope you stayed warm whenever you’re reading from and had an enjoyable weekend as well! By the way, have you entered the Rodan + Fields giveaway? I’ll be announcing a winner tomorrow morning! Good luck!
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
