Family, Friends, and Food

We had a pretty solid weekend around here that was full of friends, family time, and a ton of good food!

On Friday, Jamie met the girls and me at the mall after work so that we could switch cars. He took the girls home and I headed out to meet a friend for some Mexican. It was a fun, much-needed few hours of girl time without the kiddos. I loved this picture Jamie sent me of Hadley passed out while “reading” her little Bible (which was actually my picture Bible when I was her age).

On Saturday morning I got up bright and early to knock out a four-mile run. I’m training to run a 10k in a couple weeks, so I knew I needed to get this run out of the way. It was a beautiful morning, so the run felt great. A little before noon we all loaded up and headed over to our favorite doughnut spot for a birthday party for one of Hadley’s little friends. Sadie loves tagging along for birthday parties and enjoying the fun (and food!)

Jamie ran to a couple stores Saturday afternoon while I stayed back with the girls so they could nap. The temperature was 76 and gorgeous outside, so we spent a good bit of the late afternoon outside with our neighbors on the trampoline. Around 5:30 we came inside so I could get started on dinner, which was a recipe I’d stumbled upon that morning in my inbox. This bacon and egg fried rice was absolutely delicious! Jamie requested that I make it again this week so that he can take it for his lunches. It was easy to make, so I’m happy to comply!

The girls crashed a little after 7, and Jamie and I ended the night watching a Netflix movie together. I think it was called The Impossible and was based on a family’s true story from the Thailand tsunami. It was just okay.

On Sunday I whipped together this pancake puff recipe that I’d recently ripped out of a magazine. I thought it was just alright, but  Sadie and Jamie ate every last bite of their portions. They loved it! Ha. 🙂 We all quickly got ready for church and were out the door by 9:10.

After church we went out to lunch with some friends and then made a quick grocery trip to Aldi. The rest of the day consisted of cleaning, laundry, and prepping for our life group from church to come over last night. We had a good crowd and are so enjoying leading our group so far. I made a big batch of spaghetti and meatballs that a few families stuck around to enjoy over good conversation.

I ended Sunday night by throwing together this post (because writing is sometimes my favorite way to unwind), and then crashing in bed by 10:30.

I hope you had an enjoyable weekend, friends!

Erica

Hi! I’m a proud Army wife and mom to two little girls (ages 1 and 4), and I love sharing our lives with you. I blog all about motherhood, our time in the military, our travels, our meals, my fitness journey, my fashion favorites, and so much more. I truly enjoy sharing it all! I can’t get enough of birthday cake ice cream, weekend sunrise runs, or making my girls belly-laugh. I write almost daily about my family’s lives, and though I like to keep things light, I also share the messy parts too. Welcome! So glad to have you around. I’m active on Facebook and Instagram and would love to communicate with you there!

Meet Erica

I’m grateful to be called Mom by two little girls ages 1 and 4, and I’m a super proud Army wife. Our family is currently stationed in Manhattan, Kansas at Fort Riley.

I’m a former middle and high school English teacher with a life-long passion for writing and sharing. I enjoy story-telling about parenting, meal ideas, traveling, friendships, military adventures, our DIY successes and failures, and so much more.

I write almost daily about our family’s lives in general, and though I like to keep things light, I also share the occasionally chaotic parts too. Welcome! So glad to have you around.

  • (#ad) Chatting about all things related to nutrition and workout supplements on the blog today. This has been a hot topic in our house lately as we’ve recently given more attention to what’s worth adding to both of our fitness routines. Jamie has so many products he loves and swears by, but I’m kind of new with all of this biz! I’m curious what you and/or your significant other incorporate and why, so please share if your comfortable. 😊 #SARMsCanHarm

  • Cruising the neighborhood the other day and we met a family with two kids very similar ages to ours three houses down (who also just moved from Kansas weeks ago - weird), there are frequent themed block parties at the neighborhood pool, and there’s a self-proclaimed bartender who mixes up new drinks for every party. Jamie got invited to a neighborhood guys’ poker night, and I’m on the list to receive info for the next ladies night. We found my DREAM NEIGHBORHOOD. Three cheers. 🥂#ilovealabama
