Hello SPRING!
Kansas is the first place we’ve lived where we’ve truly experienced all four seasons, each for a good length of time! The winters are brutal (that wind!) and the summers sometimes feel like a hairdryer, but I’ve really loved the spring and fall the last 2.5-3 years we’ve lived here. Excited to start getting outdoors on the regular now that it’s warming up a bit. 🙂
This may have been the last official weekend of winter, but it sure didn’t feel like it! We had such an enjoyable family weekend.
We kicked off the weekend Friday afternoon with ice cream on the trampoline soaking up the beautiful 76 degree weather. I’d been out running three errands with the girls, and Hadley mentioned that she wanted ice cream. She’d been so well behaved the last few days, so during a grocery trip I grabbed a new pint we’d never tried before and headed home to lay Sadie down for a late afternoon nap.
We each made a bowl and enjoyed some Mommy/Hadley time, but because she ended up making such a mess, I think that was our first and last time to eat ice cream on the trampoline. 😉 Not my best idea, but she loved it!
Once Jamie got home, we cleaned up and headed to drop off Hadley’s beloved stuffed cat, Sophia, at Chickfila for a sleepover!
Jamie stayed back with Sadie while we took Sophia and picked up dinner to-go! They snapped our picture and we decorated a little photo album that would hold pictures from Sophia’s overnight adventure.
Hadley was pretty confused about why we left without Sophia, but she never cried and was busting to pick her up in the morning! Jamie headed to a Hail and Farewell that night, but since Spring Break had just started, I was totally out of luck finding a sitter. I haven’t missed one of his events in a while, so I didn’t mind too terribly much putting the girls to bed and enjoying a few hours of quiet time.
On Saturday morning we all headed back to Chickfila to pick up Sophia and her photo album. Hadley hasn’t put either down since! Sophia ate a milkshake, waffle fries, and even played in the play area. Hadley cannot wait to take Sophia back for another sleepover! High five, Chickfila. Very cute activity. 🙂 PS: I wonder what the employees would have thought if she showed up with Piggy instead of Sophia. Hahaha.
After we picked up Sophia, we headed to Aggieville to meet up with the Landers and get ready to run the St. Patty’s Day 10k!
Jamie was so cute and came home on Friday with a poster board to make a sign with Hadley. He says he’ll be holding onto that sign for every future race so that he continues to get supportive husband points. 😉 Such a nut.
Meg and I ran separately since I knew she’d kick my tail (even though it was her first one and she totally smoked it!) The beautiful, cool weather combined with race day adrenaline resulted in a successful, enjoyable race! I love this picture her sweet mom captured of us high fiving once we found each other after the race.
Hadley and Jack enjoyed our medals and we booked it right over to Varsity for doughnuts! We planned to also go next door to sit outside and enjoy a beer, but I started feeling a little lightheaded and made a quick decision to just head home to rest before heading to a hair appointment just a couple hours later.
On Saturday night we ate leftovers and watched SING! We got this package on Saturday from NBC designed to promote the movie coming out on Blu-Ray and DVD, and the whole thing just cracked me up! It’s designed to give moms a break while their kids watch SING. Basically, put the movie on for the kids and go light a candle, pour a glass of wine, put on either the bluetooth headphones or speaker, and then finally put the door hanger on the door. Hilarious, and I love it! We loved this movie and highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet. Also, those bluetooth headphones have a pig on the side of them, so Jamie said he will only steal them if he’s working out at home. 😉 Ha! They’re pretty legit!
Jamie not-so-secretly loves musical movies like this, so he and Hadley had a good time dancing (and I had a better time watching!)
On Sunday Jamie headed to church to serve but I stayed back with the girls since they’ve both been battling the nastiest-sounding colds. We didn’t think the nursery workers would appreciate us handing over snotty, hacking kids to them.
The temperature warmed up quickly and reached 91 by 4 p.m. It was so bizarre, but we knew that it was just a one-day fluke. I couldn’t believe Sadie needed to wear Hadley’s 2T clothes. She’s such a chunk! My sister was spazzing out about this picture below because she said she just can’t believe what a real kid Sadie looks like. I can’t believe it either! It’s so fun watching them play together. Also, I have all the heart eyes for Sadie’s little Natives (she’s 11 months old and wearing a size 4.)
Later Sunday afternoon we tag-teamed cleaning the house and then welcomed over our church life group for bible study and shredded chicken tacos. After we put the girls to bed and straightened back up the house, we sat on the front porch for about 30 minutes to enjoy the weather, watch the most gorgeous sunset (which my phone wouldn’t capture), and drink a summery beer. It was the perfect end to the weekend!
We’re headed to Disney World tomorrow! We’ve been working with the very best Disney travel agent (Hey Alicia!), but if you have any additional last-minute tips, I’d love to hear them! Have a great Tuesday. 🙂
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
