Hello hello! I hope you’re having a great week. 🙂 Do you have any Easter/Spring Fling-type events going on this weekend? Our weekend is SLAMMED pack from Saturday morning until Sunday night (with thankfully all really good things!), so we’re putting on our seat belts and planning to plow through and enjoy every bit of it.
A Little Background
Wanting to end the week with a quick slice of life. By the way, did you know that it’s been just over two years since I started doing these posts? They started after a spontaneous conversation with my Tante (aunt) Lynn, who I’m very close to. She was visiting, and I was asking her for some feedback about my blog (I’d been writing it consistently for about a year at that point.) She said her favorite posts were the ones that included little slices of life. She enjoyed seeing pictures of our family and what we were up to day in and day out.
That conversation inspired my first “Slice of Life” post, and here I am two years later still cranking them out 2-3 times a month (you can visit a whole bunch of them by clicking here). They are consistently some of my most visited posts, and I think it’s because people like to see how other people are living their lives for one reason or another. Maybe it’s to draw inspiration, maybe it’s to find solitary, maybe it’s just for plain entertainment? I’m nobody special. I don’t cook fancy meals or take the best pictures or fill our days doing anything out of the ordinary. So I guess I just want to say thanks for being interested in our wild crew and making these posts so enjoyable to share. <3
Onward!
A little housekeeping, but I’ve been playing with my email newsletter for about a year, and it’s just not really my thing. 🙂 I’m simplifying things a bit and have created this form for you to subscribe to receive new posts in your inbox, if you’re interested. You’ll receive a blurb of the post, and if it’s a topic up your alley, you can click over to read the rest. If it’s something you’re not interested in, feel totally free to delete! No hard feelings. 😉 I just wanted to extend this option and would love for you to sign up.

After 5-6 weeks of on and off fevers, snotty noses, coughs, gunky eyes, etc. I took the girls to the doc last week. With young children, it’s such a guessing game as to how to handle their colds and illnesses. How long do you ride it out? When do you take them in? Which medicine should you give and for how long? Is it an ear infection or just a fussy spell? So irritating. This is why I’m so thankful that we switched to Tricare Standard and picked our pediatrician. We adore him so much and really trust his advice with our girls. Our family will truly miss our girls being in his care when we move next year. Also… Sadie is SUCH A KID and not so much a baby anymore. 🙁 She loves the fish tank!
Last week Jamie’s parents came up to celebrate my mother-in-law’s belated birthday.
We took them out to eat at Umi, a local Japanese restaurant, and the girls loved it! Hadley hadn’t been in over a year, so this seemed all new to her. Per their usual, Sadie ate like a little pig off of my plate and Hadley did her best to take careful bites here and there. 🙂
We bit the bullet and took Hadley to get her first hair cut! Her hair had been in pigtail braids for school that day, so the hair dresser had to wash her hair. Hadley wasn’t a huge fan of that part, but she did fantastic while getting her hair cut and dried. It looks so much healthier and thicker! She’s a fan of her new do, and I have all the heart eyes for my big girl!
I woke up last Saturday morning to this site: Jamie making homemade pancakes for everyone and Hadley sitting at the counter eating and talking with him. I can’t put my finger on why this scene made my heart so happy, but it did. Also… look at our white cabinets in progress. I’ll be back in September (or later) with finished pictures. 😉
We love the Discovery Center! We played there last Saturday since it was rainy and cold, and Sadie did her best to move around pushing the shopping cart. She is nowhere (!) close to walking on her own, but she is doing great pushing walking toys around when she feels like it.
My heartbeats snuggled on my lap after dinner out last Saturday night.
I’m so (so so so) proud of my best friend Amberlee. She’s taking a break from teaching to stay home with their one-year-old son, and she decided last summer that she wanted to take on a new hobby or some kind of work from home. She and her husband invested in a few machines, and now she’s cranking out a super successful monogramming/applique/vinyl business via Etsy! She has always been so crafty and creative, so this fits her perfectly. She’s been so surprised how her Etsy site has taken off, but I’m not surprised in the slightest. Just look at her precious packaging. She’s doing such a good job.
She gifted my girls these cute shirts to wear to our battalion’s Spring Fling on Saturday, so I wanted to spotlight her for a minute and say thank you! If you need any kind of custom products (shirts and beyond!), talk to Amberlee. She somehow makes everyone’s visions a reality. Here’s her Etsy page, Facebook page, and Instagram.
And finally… I decided a couple months ago that we needed one day a week where we stayed home and did nothing. This usually falls on a Wednesday or Friday, and it’s Heavenly. Hadley loves it because she gets to stay in pajamas, watch too much TV, and play quietly in her playroom. Sadie loves it because she gets to nap without being woken up to go anywhere. I love it for so many reasons I couldn’t begin to name. 🙂
Thanks for reading! I’ll be back Saturday with another featured blogger for the Saturday Sit-Down. Don’t miss my girl, Britt! Have a great Friday and weekend. <3
Let’s chat!
- Did you save a little bit of hair from your kids’ first haircuts? I saved a little bit of Hadley’s because I don’t think she’ll be blonde forever, so I wanted to save those light blonde locks!
- When did your kid start walking? Hadley walked at 10.5 months, but Sadie may be a 14/15 monther, give or take.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
