Happy Friday, and Happy National Doughnut Day! Ha. A couple girlfriends and I are off this morning to take the kids to indulge in this genius holiday. Click here to read a list of popular doughnut chains offering free doughnuts today. 🙂
Wanting to end the week with a “Slice of Life” and share a little bit of what we’ve been up to around town the last couple weeks.
Last Tuesday I became really sick with a 24ish hour bug, so thankfully Jamie was able to work from home and watch the kids while I tried to rest all day. I really wanted him to stay home again Wednesday too while I attempted to regain my strength, but I knew his load as a commander was heavy, especially just getting home from California and then being off the day prior.
Lucky for me, his brigade commander gave everyone a surprise day off after they finished a brigade run that morning. I was so happy that I could have cried. Ha! Jamie decided we needed a few hours out of the house to get me some fresh air, so we headed to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. We don’t eat out too often, so this was a total treat for us all. 🙂
We then spent the afternoon walking down to our local mid-week farmer’s market and then letting Teddy roam around at the dog park. We’re not sure if Teddy’s hip is sadly ever going to be in perfect shape again following his big surgery back in February, so after a mile he slowed his pace and seemed totally happy to lay his head on Hadley’s lap and ride with the girls back home. 🙂
On Thursday of last week I was in a total funk because I was still feeling so lethargic, but a toddler and a preschooler really don’t care that Mom doesn’t feel well. They were both acting up a little bit trying to get my attention, so right when I was on the verge of tears we all threw some clothes on and headed out the door. One of Hadley’s favorite places is Varsity Doughnuts, so we headed there for a sweet treat before heading over to a local Public Works fair for kids.
Hadley got to run around for an hour playing games, climbing inside of all kinds of tractors, and hanging with friends (which means my momma-friends were there for me to hang with too!) Getting out the house was the last thing I wanted to do that day since I felt like garbage, but getting our acts together and doing something fun together always turns my mood around.
If you’re a stay-at-home parent and frequently finding yourself in a funk, I can’t encourage you enough to get out as much as you can and find things to do with your kids around town. Such a mood booster for everybody. The hardest step is the one out the door!
Story time! Sadie isn’t named after anyone in particular, and putting Sadie Rose together was purely random (though we had our reasons for why we chose her name.) We learned soon after we announced her name that my great-grandmother’s name was Rosaria. Her name was then shortened to Sarah, and from there she got the nickname Sadie. So crazy how Rosaria sounds like Rose, and then she ended up going by Sadie. 🙂
Anyway! I couldn’t believe when this book showed up at my house a couple weeks ago. My aunt randomly found it online and had to send it my way. How crazy is that?! And I’ve already mentioned a few months ago that my MIL found an outfit called the “Sadie Rose” at her favorite children’s boutique. Whaaaatt?! We thought putting “Sadie” and “Rose” together was so random, but I guess not. 🙂 Ha!

We’ve been having fun at our two local splash parks lately! Sadie is able to get to a standing position on her own and walk around with one hand, but she still has no clue that she can walk alone. Slowly but surely we’re getting there!
PS: I’ve talked about Natives (the kids’ Jeffersons) no less than 1,000 times on this blog the last two years, but you guys… if you have kids, you have got to get a pair for summer. There is NO better summer shoe. They run true to size and are perfect for water and the playground. They slip on easily and stay on the feet really well. We throw them in the washing machine often and then let them air dry. Gotta get them! They range in price based on color. I always order them at the end of winter from either Amazon or since that’s usually when they’re cheapest. Right now they are basically the same price on either site, so take your pick! They both offer free shipping and returns.
Jamie had a four-day weekend for Memorial Day last weekend, and you know that we spent Saturday and Sunday in Omaha. On Friday and Monday though we hung out at home and practically lived on the back deck. Sadie ate her weight in watermelon and couldn’t get enough!
I love this boy below so stinkin’ much!
I think this picture below of Hadley washing my car with Jamie is sweet, but take a good look at Hadley’s shoes. 🙂 She’s wearing her winter boots! She was so anxious to get out and help Jamie that she ran to find whatever shoes she could grab first. Whatever, girlfriend. Love her.
I saw this little monster toss game from Alex Toys back in February for 75% off and grabbed it! I knew it would be something extra and fun to set up for the kids to play outside. Money well spent because the kids love it! Hadley plays it correctly, but Sadie just loves squishing the bean bags. 🙂 It’s currently on sale on Amazon.
We ended Memorial Day weekend grilling outside with just our little family of four. Half of our meals the last couple weeks have come straight off the grill. Everything just tastes better!

And that’s just another slice of life lately. 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
