Some of my favorite blog posts to sink into my couch and write are the semi-mindless ones where I answer questions and blab about all of life’s happenings. Today’s post is one of them. 🙂 Linking up with Shay, Mel, and Sheaffer for their monthly “What’s Up Wednesday”. Feel free to chime in in the comments with your answers to some of these questions as well!
What we’re eating
Who knows? 🙂 I go in waves with meal planning, and lately it hasn’t been my thing. I’ve been more interested in picking up our staples plus random finds at the store and then deciding each day what to whip together. I almost always decide by 10 a.m. what we’re having for dinner so that I can prep on and off throughout the day (i.e. thaw meat, chop vegetables, toss items in crockpot, etc.)
What I’m reminiscing about
What an adventurous summer we’ve had. Wow. It’s been a doozy in the best way! Last summer I’m not sure we left our town one time in June or July since Sadie was a newborn, Jamie’d just re-deployed home, I’d just gotten back from Alabama, yadda yadda… so we had some making up to do this year.
What I’m loving
I’m loving (!) that Hadley is finally starting to fully dress herself (such a big help!) and that Sadie is finally starting to keep her shoes on when we’re out and about. We’re officially down two pairs of shoes (include her brand new Mini Melissas that I snagged on sale on Prime Day that we loved!) that she’s kicked off sometime while we’ve been out, but I’m hoping the days of aggressively kicking off her shoes are behind us!
What we’ve been up to
Lots of Army/FRG stuff, Hadley recently started speech therapy, planning for the fall/deployment distractions, etc.
What I’m dreading
Jamie’s heading out mid-month to head overseas for a few short months, and even though this deployment will be significantly shorter than the last three, I still miss him so much when he’s gone for an extended time. Life is so much better when we’re whole!
What I’m working on
I’m working on trying to get back on my healthy eating game. Running around the last three months has been no good for routinely picking healthier choices. Womp womp.
What I’m excited about
MY SISTER IS HAVING ANOTHER BABY! She finds out the gender later this week, and I’m bursting! I’m predicting she’s cooking us a handsome little nephew, but we’ll see. 🙂 Obviously a fourth granddaughter in our family would be super wonderful too. She’s due within days of my 30th birthday in January. So excited for their family and for Carly to be a big sister!

What I’m watching/reading
I’ve been plowing through a book called Sacred Pathways by Gary Thomas, and it’s a great Christian read about the different ways we’re designed to study, worship, and understand the Lord. Maybe we’re not all wired to wake up and read the Bible every morning, and the author’s perspective on that routine is interesting and so relatable. It was a gift from our pastor after a conversation he and I had, and I’m learning a lot from it.
What I’m listening to
XM Radio is on it’s free two-week trial right now, so I’ve been jamming out to my fave Pop2k like I always do during these trial periods. 😉 (We cut XM Radio when we did our budgeting last year.)
What I’m wearing
My Chaco sandals have seen a lot of life this summer. A lot. I get more questions about these shoes when I’m out and about than any other pair of shoes I own. I bought them last spring because I wanted a pair of shoes that would be easy to take the girls to the park or splash pad and that I wouldn’t freak out about if they got wet, sandy, muddy, etc. I also needed them to be comfortable, easy to quickly slip on, and super supportive. My Chacos check every single box. The sales person told me that she has had all of her Chacos for at least five years, and after two summers of solid wear, I believe we’re definitely on track for at least another three years. Jamie even got a pair this year after seeing how versatile mine are. The price is a little steep and they take a few wears of getting used to, but they are worth every single penny – I promise!
What I’m doing this weekend
We actually have a fun weekend coming up! We’re heading to Kansas City for the World Series of BBQ (!) and then on Sunday we’re looking forward to hosting my relatives who are coming to visit for the day from Omaha. We had so much fun with them in May and look forward to seeing them again in a few days.
What I’m looking forward to next month
The girls starting school! Hallelujah. Hadley has loved and thrived in her CDO classes the last couple years, and this year she’ll be in her first year of PreK classes. I’m so excited for her! Sadie will start a CDO class, and while I’m a little nervous about how we’ll both do being separated from each other (we haven’t done it much!), I know she’s going to learn so much and have a fun time making new friends. She’s the silliest kid, and we know CDO will be right up her alley. She LOVES to learn!
Bonus question: What are your best back-to-school lunch ideas/tips?
Ha! No tips here. I’m the one who needs the tips. 😉
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
