This blog post for fall outfits 2017 also will carry beautifully into fall outfits 2018! I used Pinterest to help me shop my own closet for outfits to put together for date nights, outings with friends, or just running errands around town. Before you go shopping this fall, shop your own closet to see what you can put together!
Throughout the last week or so, I’ve been doing a ton of “clothing inventory” for my daughters and me to see what we still have in good condition and where we have gaps/needs. I’ve been going through not only the clothing that’s hung in our closets, but also through socks, shoes, outerwear, undergarments, etc.
One thing I learned about myself a couple years ago is that I would wait until right when I (or my kids) needed something, and then I would buy the first thing that worked, often at full retail. Not only was this a poor financial decision, but I would often settle for items that I didn’t truly love and therefore wasn’t fully satisfied with (i.e. wanting to replace within a year). So I’ve stopped doing that altogether.
After doing inventory of the girls’ needs, I did my own needs for fall outfits 2017. For a hot minute I was admittedly feeling a little pessimistic about my fall/winter options, but seeing a closet full of clothes in front of me still in good condition, I knew I probably just needed to mix and match and find contentment with what I already own.
Over the weekend I pulled up Pinterest, typed in “Fall 2017 Fashion” and the like, and took screenshots of a ton of looks I wanted to try to recreate. Then I got to work pulling items out of my closet and putting together outfits that I likely would have never put together on my own.
You may remember that I did this back in the spring, and it encouraged me to shop my own closet for upcoming events instead of swiping our card for new stuff.
With the exception of a few new pieces from Tobi, everything in these pictures is something I already owned.
I cannot tell you the contentment (and joy!) doing this little project brought me when it comes to my own closet. I honestly had 10 more pictures saved that I could have easily replicated, but I was a sweaty, hot mess by the end of this try-on sesh and couldn’t put on one more fall top. 😉 It’s still quite hot in Kansas!
Anyway… try shopping your own closets for fall outfits 2017, folks. 🙂 It’s fun!

Do you ever turn to Pinterest to help you get dressed? 🙂
What gaps do you have in your fall/winter wardrobe?
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
