We had a nice long weekend around here! I’m admittedly writing this feeling a bit “off” and flustered by some moving-related issues, so to blow off some steam I’m sitting down to look at some happy pictures and think about the fun we had the last several days.
On Friday night, some of our close friends that we made while living at Fort Campbell, Tennessee pulled in for a short weekend visit! We hadn’t seen each other in nearly three years (they just returned from being stationed in Hawaii!), so we had the best time picking up right where we left off.
My girls were drawn to Hannah the second she walked in the door, and they basically spent every second that we were at home in her lap reading books, snuggling, and hanging out. It was very, very sweet! There are few things that warm my heart like seeing other people treat your children well.
And this is why they love her so much. We went to Varsity to get doughnuts Saturday morning, and after we were all done eating, Hannah grabbed Chutes and Ladders and taught the girls how to play. This is how you win the hearts of toddlers and preschoolers. 🙂
PS: Isn’t Hannah’s hair insanely gorgeous? While living in Hawaii, she worked as a movie extra. For one role, they offered to pay her to shave off all of her hair on camera. She thought about it, but ultimately the money wasn’t worth the time she’s spent growing it out with her sites set on donating it.
Though it was windy and in the 30s Saturday morning, we still bundled up to burn off a bite of our doughnuts by walking around a nearby prairie.
They brought along their dog Jack, and gosh, if we ever get a big dog, I want a Border Collie! He was the best house guest and so dang sweet with the kids! I was so impressed.
That afternoon, the guys headed on-post to workout while Hannah and I lounged catching up on Bachelor: Winter Games. We have always bonded over our love of this garbage TV. 😉 That afternoon, Jamie and I took Hannah and Jon to our local winery for a little afternoon happy hour before eating dinner at one of our most favorite restaurants, Bourbon and Baker.
On Sunday morning, we ate a big breakfast and played a bit more before giving big hugs and saying our “see ya laters”.
Until next time, Wilsons! <3
After they left Sunday, we did some lounging around, which turned into me staying in my pajamas all day long. All day. Sadie did too. I felt equal parts like the laziest bum in the world and super well-rested all at the same time. I wouldn’t say mentally that I enjoy days like this, but I know it’s good for the body to just have a day to slow down and chill out every now and then, so I relished in it!
You know who didn’t stay in their pajamas all day? These two.
They got all fancied up to attend the annual Flint Hills Volunteer Center’s Daddy/Daughter sweetheart dance for the second year in a row, and they were just the cutest pair!
Like last year, Hadley helped me pick out her dress online, and she was just tickled about the heart on the back of it (I was too!) Psst: and available in both red and navy blue velvet in sizes 2T up to an 8 for girls. I washed it and hung it to dry, and it looks perfect. Highly recommend because it’s just the sweetest dress!
It was a surprisingly warm-ish day, so we took some pictures outside as well as inside, and then they were off to shake their booties, each some snacks, and hang with princesses for the next two hours. They both had an absolute blast!
Jamie took her out to Applebee’s afterwards since he didn’t get to take her out for her annual birthday dinner date during his deployment, so when they both got home around 7 p.m., they were toast. It was fun hearing about what a good time they had, and I’m just grateful to have a front row seat to watch their relationship blossom more and more the older she gets.
I hope you enjoyed your weekend as well and that your week is off to a nice start! xo
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
