Hello, hello! I have another slice of our lives for ya today! If you missed yesterday’s, you can back track here.
I’m not sure I’ve had new posts on both Monday and Tuesday on any given week in a hot minute, but with the girls at VBS every evening this week, I’ve had a bit more time to sit down guilt-free and crank out some writing. 🙂 Feels good!
You may remember that we recently turned our home office space into Jillian‘s nursery, so all of the office items had to go somewhere. A bit of it ended up getting organized in my closet, which required me to be more intentional about how I organized the things I already had in there.
One of those areas was my shoe organization. After doing some research on shoe organization options, I landed on ordering two of these and stacked one on top of the other. I put them together in less than half an hour and am very impressed with the quality. I know I’ll have these organizers for probably decades. Money well spent!
We love living in Huntsville! This area offers lots of opportunities for family fun. Hadley begged and begged to go to the Chinese Lantern Festival with us at night after seeing all of the marketing for it on TV and billboards + going during the day on a field trip, so we finally made it happen for her on the very last night it was offered. Ha!
Well worth the money! We had fun but mainly enjoyed watching her and Sadie sprint around enjoying the sites.
Everything was beautiful!
I’ve shared before that one major way we save money is by not eating out much as a family without a “good” reason, so we usually save dining out for social reasons with friends or extended family. Sometimes it really is nice though to just go out for the heck of it just the four of us.
We were up bright and early one Friday morning so that we could go on post and get my military i.d. renewed, and since we were done by 7:45, we decided to swing into Cracker Barrel for a big family breakfast instead of just go home. I don’t know why insignificant outings like this as a family make me so happy, but they do! And now every time we pass Cracker Barrel Sadie yells “Cracker Barrel! I like that place!”
Over Memorial Day weekend we attended a fun backyard crawfish boil at our friends Amy and Beau’s house, and Jamie was in Heaven with countless trays of crawfish. Totally his jam! I’m not a big seafood eater, so I stuck to enjoying the social time. 😉 Thanks Miles fam!
We’re barely into June and the girls have already gone swimming so. many. times. They would be happy if that’s all we did this summer!
This is a common morning site lately. Wake up, put on princess dresses (since I won’t give them the TV while I drink coffee and watch GMA, lol), jump on trampoline.
My precious niece Carly turned three last week! Thankful for FaceTime. <3
My parents had us over for a lunchtime Memorial Day barbecue, which we really enjoyed. My parents set up a baby pool and sprinklers and set out all kinds of toys, and the girls just played their hearts out for hours. I don’t think Jamie and I have been able to have (mostly) uninterrupted conversations with my parents like that in ages.
I shared in my post yesterday that our ideal summer day has us being out of the house between 9:30-noon(ish), so we’ve just been picking an activity and rolling with it! One day last week we had nothing on the docket for the following morning, so I decided to keep it simple and surprise the girls with a pedicure, just the three of us. 🙂
Both girls always notice when I get my toes done and ask when they can go with me. They were pumped! The technicians couldn’t have been nicer, spoiling the girls with juice boxes and cookies. People asked on IG how Sadie specifically did, and the answer is great! She sat totally still and watched every single thing that they did. She was enthralled and especially loved picking out her polish color.
But sometimes we go out to do things, push it too long, and then both girls crash before we get home. Any parent knows this is generally a nightmare situation because a car nap of any amount of time always equals the only naps they’ll take that day. But they sure do look cute passed out. 🙂
Pools, popsicles, and pals = classic summer.
Finally, we spent a few hours at the lake on Saturday and had a great time. Honeycomb Campground, which is part of Lake Guntersville, has this open beach area that was much nicer than we expected (and the entry for our whole car was only $8!) We spent a few hours lounging, playing, and swimming before calling it a day and making the short drive home. I’m telling you – I can’t get enough family fun time lately. It really fills my tank, and Jamie’s too.
If you’re looking for life jackets that your kids (hopefully) won’t detest, I’d recommend these . We used them at the beach in Grand Cayman and took them along for this trip too. The kids don’t mind them at all! We feel very comfortable with the girls wearing them in bodies of water like this.

What Activities Are Your Kids Doing this Summer?
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
