It’s a strange fabulous feeling to be “on my own” financially. Though I worked every summer during college, I always hated feeling short on money. My mom continually gave/gives Jenn, David, and me every penny she had/has, but I am not the type that accepts money well from others. I absolutely loathe asking for money.
I graduated from college six months ago today, and I am very proud to say that I pay for everything on my own. Though my parents still put a roof over my head and pay the utilities, I pay every single one of my other bills (car, insurance, cell phone, loans, gym, etc.). My dad gave me a good solid five months to get a chunk of money under my belt before he handed everything over to me. His decision to support me for a few more months was very generous and considerate.
I love knowing that I’m married and now share financial decisions with my husband. We discuss finances very well together. We have always heard that poor financial communication and preparation is one of the top downfalls for marriages today. We want to tackle financial issues ahead of time by saving, saving, saving! Though deployment will STINK, we ARE getting to save a crazy amount of money.
This has all been on my mind today because my dad taught me how to do all of my own taxes yesterday afternoon. Having my own job and starting my own family unit just makes me feel like a functioning member of society, and I like it. 🙂
Hope you’re having a great Monday! I, for one, am completely BURRIED in papers, but I’m not worried about it because it’s going to get done when it gets done. 🙂
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
