summer projects

The first time I grabbed a hold on my new electric screwdriver was to hang my bedroom curtains.

My wall took QUITE the beating, but nothing that a little spackle and paint can’t touch up one of these days. 🙂 Once I “successfully” hung the rod, I walked away to marvel at how they looked, and that’s when I noticed that they weren’t even touching the dadgum floor. Dang.

Oh well. Round two in the guest bedroom was more successful. Here’s another little project I completed in the guest bedroom – a headboard!

I bought a white wicker headboard off of craigslist for $40 thinking that since it was advertised as “white” it would surely match the dresser I recently refinished…

But I should have known from wedding dress shopping that WHITE can mean beige, cream, off-white, etc. Side note: I remember buying my dress with my mom, and the sales lady asking if I wanted the dress in the color I tried on or in “white“. I looked at her thinking “Well of course I want it in white! It’s a wedding dress!”. She quickly explained that the dress I tried on was ivory. Okay – I want ivory.

So I bring the headboard home and it was definitely white, while my dresser is probably ivory, or whatever paint color I painted it. So I spray-painted it brown, and I think for a project that only took me a couple hours on the deck, it came out okay. Wish I had some before pictures of all these projects, but my camera doesn’t work 95% of the time kind of stinks.

A couple more projects – an old bedside table that was originally white with blue butterflies all over it (I’d had it forever and ever). I spray painted it red.

My last project that I am the most proud of (I’m so humble) is putting together this –

I saw this desk in a sales circular for $119 at OfficeMax, and that was by far the cheapest and nicest desk I’d seen throughout my search for my desk. I went to buy it, and of course it’s not put together; I have to do it myself. Oh crap. I can do this.

So I purchased it, let it sit in my car for a week until I saw a neighbor help me put it in the house, and then let it sit another week until I got the guts to tackle it. Tuesday night I ripped the box open to find 26 pieces of wood and 35 steps worth of hardware. Another Oh crap.

Putting it together took two nights and a combined four hours. I’m telling you – I’ve been feeling like superwoman lately. If my dad or Jamie was here, I definitely would have asked them to put it together, but when I had no choice but to do it myself, I had to figure it out. And I’m so glad I did because it was more than putting together a desk, (cue cheese) but it really showed me what I’m capable of doing myself.

My next BIG project –
… to clean out this garage ONCE AND FOR ALL.

Heading out to lunch soon to catch up with a sorority sister and then headed to Tuscaloosa for Jenn’s graduation, Madison for a few days with my parents and friends, and then a little five-day roadtrip to visit Jenn and Josh in Fort Rucker and Ashley Martin and Amanda Armacost in Destin.

Hooray! Have a fabulous weekend.

xoxo

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
