Heaven is For Real

This book has been so (so) popular the last few months. I know about a dozen of my friends who have read it, but I didn’t get around to it myself until this past week.
I knew the gist of it: Little boy supposedly dies during surgery, goes to Heaven, and then comes back to tell his family about it. I’d seen him (now 11 years old I think) appear on Good Morning America to talk about it. My sister and brother-in-law read it on their honeymoon a few months ago (they each read it in one sitting), and my sister put it this way – You think you know what it’s about, but it still just blows you away.
I finished it last night when I laid down for bed, and the end of the book is something I won’t forget. You may be thinking I’m giving away too much of the book if you haven’t read it, but that’s impossible because the book contains SO much. If anything, let this encourage you to pick up a copy yourself.
Colton’s father had been repeatedly showing his son drawings of Jesus for YEARS to try and see if his son thought Jesus looked like any of them. He always just said no. Years pass, and the father receives word of a story of a young girl named Akaine who also had a similiar experience of “visiting” Heaven and coming back to Earth. She had a hard time (like Colton) putting to words what Jesus looked like, but the girl was a fabulous artist, so she painted his picture the very best she could.
When Colton’s father heard of this, he took the picture and showed it to Colton without telling him a word about it – He just showed him the picture. Colton’s response was “That one’s right!”, as in that’s what Jesus looked like.
When I finished the book, I used google images to find this picture, and this is what I found.
Staring at this picture actually took my breath away. He’s gorgeous, and two people who claim to have spent time with Jesus say this is what He looks like.
I know that everyone has different opinions about the subject of dying and coming back to life, but this is my blog and I’m allowed to share mine. 🙂 I truly believe that God is an all-powerful God who can do whatever the heck the wants to, possible and “impossible”, and though He doesn’t HAVE to prove that He and Heaven exist, he chooses to give some people a glimpse, so that they may proclaim for the rest of their lives that Heaven is, in fact, for real to other believers.
To give them hope. To thrill them. To give them peace for their loved ones and reassurance that your struggles as a believer will be so worth it.
Again, I promise that I didn’t give away even a tenth of the book, so please go pick up a copy and make of it what you will. I personally find it an absolutely incredible story and am thankful to the Burpos for sharing it.
Just some food for thought. I still can’t get over the picture.
“See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” – Matthew 18:10
Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
