There is no combination of positive adjectives to adequately describe in this Los Altos de Eros review our six day/five night vacation in Costa Rica. To say that it was incredible just doesn’t do it justice! Los Altos is paradise in every sense of the word.

We landed in Liberia, Costa Rica around noon local time last Friday, June 1st, and were wheels up back to the States around 1 p.m. this past Wednesday, June 6th. When booking the trip, we both assumed that five nights would be plenty. We both love to travel but love to come home. We were so wrong, and I’m not too proud to admit that I was choking back tears as we gave our final hugs to our new friends and the staff and pulled ourselves into the van to leave. Our driver Francisco said that it’s not rare to see women shred some tears as they pull away. Sounds ridiculous, right?! Go visit Los Altos de Eros before you judge and then we’ll talk.

We found Los Altos De Eros (LADE) on TripAdvisor.com, and with 340+positive reviews, it was hard to notkeep coming back to it. Even after reading over 100 of those reviews throughout the last year, our expectations were still far exceeded.

Los Altos de Eros is located at the top of a mountain in Tamarindo, Costa Rica and is considered a luxury resort with only FIVE ROOMS – one massive honeymoon suite, two king-bed rooms, and two queen-bed rooms. It’s a 12-15 minute ride to a couple different beautiful beaches, and within 30 minutes of nearly every Costa Rican adventure one would want to partake in.

Los Altos de Eros Review: What’s Included

Included in our room rate was every bit of our transportation (unlimited any time we wanted to go anywhere!), gym use, daily breakfast, daily lunch, Saturday night dinner, fresh cookies, snacks, unlimited fruit smoothies, wine, beer, soda, Cuban cigars, coffee, biscotti, water bottles, beach towel use, fresh shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, and daily laundry. Did you hear that? DAILY LAUNDRY! All clothes that we put in our room’s hamper were washed, dried, and neatly folded in our room by noon every single day. Jamie said that next time he’s only bringing two pairs of boxers! Ha! Even on the day we left, they did our laundry. Coming home with suitcases full of clean clothes was MONEY!

Though the resort and views are absolutely breathtaking and the country is full of fun activities to do, what makes LADE really unique is the staff. They employ 25 people, but only 10 guests can stay there at a time. That’s 2.5 employees PER PERSON! Nothing was too much for the staff.

Once we booked the trip in February, we did no other planning. We’d read several reviews that informed us that LADE would take care of booking our desired adventures, so we trusted that! We spent one morning zip-lining, one afternoon snorkeling on a 5.5 hour catamaran boat trip, and one morning playing on the beautiful beach. Each of these excursions was arranged by the resort manager! She made sure that if we’d be missing a meal that food was prepared early, and she even packed us a beach bag with towels and water ready to go!

Same deal with our spa treatments. I took major advantage of the “The #1 ranked spa in Costa Rica” and booked a treatment for every day. Jamie had three! I’ve never been a big massage lover, but the combination of open-air, natural products, and incredible masseuses was heaven on earth. I had a 90-minute full body couple’s massage, red clay facial, papaya body wrap, spa pedicure, and cocoa body scrub. Oh my word, was it paradise! As soon as I’d finish one treatment, I’d go upstairs, talk to the manager, and book something for the next day. UH-MAZ-ING! I felt so spoiled, and am so glad spa credit was included in our package.

Our meals were crazy good – every single one of them! So healthy and fresh. Only Saturday night dinner was included in the room rate, so if you wanted to eat dinner there on the other nights it was $70 per couple. That’s more than we’d normally pay for dinner, but eating anywhere else just seemed asinine when everything they prepared was out of this world. We did eat dinner down in Tamarindo one night, but the whole time we were wishing we were back at LADE!

This is what our days looked like:

Friday – arrived at 3, ate lunch, and at 4pm we were whisked away to our “Romantic Couples Massage and Dinner”, which included a 90-minute couple’s massage, one hour in the spa hot tub with champagne and strawberries, and then a private dinner. It ranked in the top three best nights of my life.

Saturday – woke up at 4 a.m. when Jamie broke a champagne glass on his foot, helped clean up the blood, fell back asleep on the balcony as the sun rose, woke up and went back to bed, woke up at 8, ate breakfast, played (literally PLAYED) in and by the pool til 1pm lunch, 2pm facial, 3pm nap, 4pm lifted weights, 6:00 cocktail and dancing hour with dinner!

Sunday – early breakfast at 7am, 7:30 pickup for zip-lining, 10:30 back to the resort to flip around the pool with my love that we had all to ourselves (I wish we had pics of us acting like two year olds!), 1pm lunch, 2:30pm papaya body wrap, 4:00nap, 6:30 dinner and time with friends

Monday – 6am 5kwalk with Jamie and CoCo (house dog), 7:30 lifted weights, 8:30 breakfast, pool time, 11am pedicure, noon early lunch, 12:30 ride arrived to pick us up for our catamaran cruise, 7:00 dinner in Tamarindo, 9:30 out cold!

Tuesday – 6am 5k run with Jamie, 8:30 breakfast, 9:00am beach time, 1pm lunch, 2pm couples massage, 3:30 amazing cooking class!, 6:30-11 dinner and loving life with the other guests (this is when Jamie’s phone may or may not have taken a swim after I pushed him in the pool… oops! It’s all good.)

Wednesday – 8:30 breakfast, 9:30 hugs and one last smoothie request, and goodbye!

Let me end by saying that Los Altos de Eros is not for everyone. Jamie and I are, and always have been, early to bed and early to rise type of people. We loved that the sun came up at 5:30 and we could start our day with exercise. We loved that every day was so different from the day before. We both LOVE LOVE LOVE the beach and tropical places but don’t like lying out by the pool/beach for more than an hour. All of my friends who have gone to the beach with me know this – I’m always the dork in the water! 🙂 We are two peas in a pod – we’d much rather be on the go and get bored super easy.

My mom and my sis were very curious about what we did at night – “Didn’t you get bored after dinner?” Legit question, but the answer is an easy no! We loved eating our three-course dinner with the other guests (Did I mention that you eat all of your meals with the other guest? We loved that! Maybe you don’t?), finishing up by 8pm, and then sitting around the table or the pool drinking wine/beer/water/soda and hanging out. I was usually upstairs and passed out by 10:30, but some other couples stayed out late enjoying perfect late-night swims, more beer/wine, and just hanging out! “Hanging out” has ALWAYS been more our speed than “going out”. That’s just me (and Jamie). We love being social and hanging out with friends, but have always preferred in a more casual setting rather than a bar.

Overall best part of the trip – Got to spend some really good quality time with Jamie. We were truly relaxed. Truly.  Neither one of us can imagine spending our time or money going anywhere else!
We are now constantly dreaming of renting out the whole resort with four other couples…. OMGoodness, it would be so much fun.
If this Los Altos de Eros review, would you please list Jamie and me as your reference? Pretty please!?

To my babe – Thanks for the honeymoon of a lifetime.

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
