This birthday letter to mom was written and shared with her on her 50th birthday. I share with her all of the qualities that I admire and hope to emulate. I hope she will always treasure my words, as I will always treasure my relationship with her.
Birthday Letter to Mom
Happy Birthday! You get even more beautiful with each passing year. I am so truly thankful that God made you my mom.
Thank you for standing by me through those rollercoaster teenage years, for creating rules and sticking to them, for being my mom when I need a mom and a friend when I needed a friend. Our relationship has always been an easy one.
Thank you for believing the best in me, even when I was at my worst. You’ve been the recipient of every “melt down” phone call, and you’ve never once cut me off, regardless of what you had going on at the time. You’re always on my side, always supporting me, while tenderly offering advice and a loving ear. There’s a reason that Jenn and I both call you every day on our way home from our jobs. We love, and have always loved, talking with you.
Thank you for actively supporting my lofty dreams and not just standing behind me in my decisions. When Rachel’s Challenge began contacting me with information about the job, I felt so conflicted over what I would do with Teddy while I traveled for a few months. We sat down at the patio table outside, and you immediately offered to keep Teddy while I traveled for as long as I needed, no questions asked. You didn’t know anything about the job, but you took the biggest weight off of my shoulders and allowed me to experience a job of a lifetime. Ted still misses his grandma time; I can tell.
Thank you for always putting your children before yourself. I never, and I mean never, have known someone so selfless. Jennifer, David, and I have always come before your friendships, your job, the house, your wardrobe, and even Dad. It’s so fun to see you enjoying your empty nest now that all the kids are out of the house and moved on.
Thank you for treating my husband as your own son, and loving him just as much. He frequently tells me how much he loves being in our crazy family.
Thank you for fiercely loving Dad. You two have shown me what a happy, healthy, giving marriage should look like. It warmed my heart to hear you call him your “groom” on Sunday.
Thank you for passing on your genes to me; There’s no one else I’d rather be told that I look exactly like.
Thank you for investing your time, love, and money into my future. You and Dad set me/us up for success in every sense of the word. I honestly hope to raise my children just the way you raised us. You knew when a lesson was okay for us to learn the hard way, but you also knew exactly when to intervene and put your foot down. “Don’t say no when you could say yes”, right?
You are truly the most adoring, attentive, generous, kindhearted, helpful, remarkable woman that this world has ever seen.
For everything you have done and continue to do for me, thank you so much! I love you so so so so so much, words cannot even touch it. I respect you, appreciate you, look up to you, and adore you.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
