It’s 3:30 on Sunday afternoon, and I’m already veggin’ in my pj pants. This is just the way I like my Sundays! As for the universal Sunday afternoon nap, neither of us are really nappers, but we are both feeling pretty wiped out today. Jamie had a good load of papers to write and presentations to put together this past week, and then we followed up his busy week with a pretty full weekend!
Friday morning Hadley and I went over to a new friend Nicole’s house for a pancake breakfast and some baby girl play time. Hadley got in her first little bit of “trouble” though (not really) because she was more interested in trying to smack sweet Jocelyn’s face than “play” with her. Of course she just thought it was hilarious! We definitely have some work to do so Had can learn how to really “play” with other babies. 🙂
After we left Nicole’s we went to run some errands, and a new workout outfit sounded like a great pre-reward for the 10k race I ran yesterday. 😉 I was only going to get some shorts and a tank, but when I was walking around the mall I remembered that I had two Victoria’s Secret secret reward cards from purchases I’d made in March, so I redeemed both of them for a new sports bra. LADIES – Go do yourself a BIG favor and go get one (or 10) of these bras!
Friday afternoon I got some work done around the house and got ready for Jamie’s MICCC mixer at Buffalo Wild Wings. We headed up there around 6, stayed for a few hours, came home to put Hadley to bed, and ended the night as we always end our Friday nights – with a DVRed episode of Shark Tank.
Yesterday morning we headed onto post so I could knock out my first 10K (6.2 mile) road race in a long time. The wind was probably the strongest wind I’d ever felt (I wish I was exaggerating), and the first two miles were all uphill. I must’ve told Jamie a half dozen times before the race started that I just wanted to run to my bed instead of run this race! The race started at 8 a.m., and you better believe I stayed in our jeep until 7:58. I walked up to join the other runners and off we went! 63 minutes later it was over and I was ready to collapse at home! I’d trained for this run for a few weeks, but that wind knocked me on my tail.
I had a hair appointment scheduled for Saturday afternoon, but I canceled it because I was feeling pretty rough. All I wanted to do was soak in the bath for a while (which I did). The best part of the day was watching my brother-in-law’s homecoming ceremony via a live feed on YouTube. More on his homecoming in another post this week. 🙂
Late afternoon Jamie, Hadley, Teddy (yes he was invited!), and I all headed over to one of my high school friend’s houses to eat dinner with her and her husband. Rosalyn cooked a big southern meal, and Jamie was in hog heaven! We only stayed a couple of hours because Hadley went a little loco (this teething stuff is SO for the birds!), so we came home, put her to bed, and put on Vince Vaughn’s Delivery Man around 8. I saw all of two minutes and passed out (all of my good friends are SHOCKED, I know), but Jamie let me sleep and woke me up when it was over so we could go to bed. Hadley Boo only woke up six times last night… no big deal. Luckily she only needed a bottle one time, and the rest she just needed her pacifier. I just keep telling myself that she’ll sleep through the night one day!
We made it to the 11 o’clock church service this morning, made a Target run afterwards (my happy place), enjoyed Rosalyn’s leftovers that she sent us with for lunch, and now we’re here just hanging out and loving it. Days like this where we can just relax mentally and physically are so needed and SO nice. Looking forward to a quiet week for all of us.
Want to leave you with a yummy bread recipe that I’ve made a few times and made again yesterday as a little gift for Rosalyn and her hubby Bret for having us over. I also doubled the recipe and made a loaf for us too. Enjoy!
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 bottle (12 ounce) of Shocktop Raspberry Wheat beer (or another kind of “fruity” beer)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
- ½ cup (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at soft room temperature
- 1 tablespoon honey
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- To make the beer bread – preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 by 5 inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray or butter. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together both kinds of flour, the sugar, baking powder and salt. Add in the honey and beer and mix until just combined. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Evenly pour the melted butter over the top of the batter.
- Transfer the pan to the oven and place a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any butter that may drip from the pan. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until a cake tester inserted in the middle comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
- To make the honey butter – in a small bowl add the butter. Add in the honey and salt. Mix until well combined.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
