Going on a picnic is one of my favorite ways to soak up a beautiful day.
but it’s the perfect picnic blanket and I refuse to get a new one.
One of my favorite lunch dates with Jamie was a couple years ago when we last-minute went to Publix and picked up sandwiches, drinks, and a dessert to split and then headed to a local park to enjoy lunch by the pond. We sat out there for hours talking, eating, feeding the ducks, and people-watching.
There’s just something about sprawling out on green grass, kicking off your flip flops, and enjoying a meal outdoors in good company. I don’t need a huge spread of food, beautiful picnic basket, and red-and-white checkered blanket to satisfy me. In fact, I think spontaneous picnics are usually the best kind.
Earlier today when my mom and I were getting in the car to drive around Sierra Vista and peruse the farmer’s market, I ran in the house last-minute to pack a quick picnic lunch. The farmer’s market is in the parking lot of a beautiful park, so I knew we’d be able to find a shady spot and enjoy lunch outside.
I threw in some fresh fruit I chopped up last night for dessert as well as some shredded buffalo chicken that we rolled up in tortillas for lunch yesterday. Nothing fancy!
Mister Ted got to come along too of course, so all we were missing was Hadley’s daddy (he’s working).
My mom is such a great grandmother. I love watching her love on my blonde baby and my red-headed (fur)baby. He trotted away from the farmer’s market with $6 homemade treats from grandma. Spoiled little chug!
Also, this is way off topic, but I have a prayer request. Two friends from high school that I reconnected with not long ago posted online today that they just adopted a sweet baby girl who was born at 27 weeks and has a long road to recovery. They’ll be down in Birmingham for several months as she develops more fully and grows big and strong. Please be in prayer for this sweet family (Wes & Kelly Hawkins) and their brand-new baby girl, Elise! You can follow their story through their Caringbridge site here. I have a huge heart for adoption, and though I’m not sure if it’s something our family will ever be able to do, I am always so in awe of and happy for those who follow the calling.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
