My mom is here! MY MOM IS HERE! I really couldn’t be more excited. She flew in to Tucson a few hours ago, and now she, Had, and Ted are taking a little snooze. So excited to host her here in Arizona for a week.
I have a little book review for ya today! 🙂
While we were throwing together some last minute things before leaving to catch our six hour flight to Boston last month, I realized that I’d forgotten to get a book to read (I always read on planes). I quickly started racking my brain trying to think of something to read when I remembered that I’d see a ton of people post on facebook about this book. I had no idea what it was about, but I asked Jamie if he’d put it on his kindle for me anyway.
I read it all day. I stayed up in bed and read it in the middle of the night.
It’s a good one.
Though John Green has a few pretty popular novels, this was the first of his that I’d read. His humor and dialogue are relatable and real. His dialogue portrays the typical teenage conversation to a tee.
Brief synopsis – Teenagers Hazel and Augustus meet in a cancer support group and end up spending gobs of time together discussing their love of/infatuation with a few different texts, but one in particular. The story tells of their stateside and overseas eventually-romantic adventures together, though almost every conversation finds its way back to the aforementioned novel or their cancer battles. Rip my heart out.
Wow, that’s a bad synopsis. Yikes. I’m kind of terrible about telling others about books, TV shows, movies, etc. without giving away too much, so I’ll stop there.
I can’t pinpoint one thing that makes this book so great. The beginning is kind of slow but really enticing at the same time. The subjects are teenagers, but as an adult I am still completely captivated by them. The language is simple and undemanding but beautifully and brilliantly written. The storyline is pure, sincere, and effortless to follow.
It’s a quick 200-something page read that you’ll breeze through in a weekend. Enjoy!
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
