Did you know that Arizona has a monsoon season?
Since we moved here in March, the only precipitation we’d seen prior to last week was a 10 minute mist that was light enough that one could still leisurely walk outside to check the mail or walk to the car without an umbrella.
The local news stations have been prepping viewers for weeks with what to expect from monsoon season and methods to stay as safe as possible. Every time these segments came on the news Jamie and I were all It’s rain, people! What’s the big deal?
Arizona Monsoon Season
When the dark clouds started rolling in a few days ago, all eyes were on the sky.
And it finally started raining (gasp). The grounds are so dry though that they can’t absorb the rain, so a 10 minute downpour is enough to turn the field behind our townhome into a small lake and completely flood the nearby streets. We’re starting to understand what the big deal is.
I’ve never loved rain so much though. The smell of that first rain was intoxicating. That first kick-up of dust created the most beautiful sky.
My morning runs have been breezy and cool. Our preacher even stopped his sermon yesterday when we all heard the sound of rain on the rooftop. The entire congregation collectively smiled and lightly cheered.
If my friends and family were out here in southern Arizona with me, I’d sure like to stay a while.
Arizona, you’re growing on me quickly. You’re pretty and I like you and I might just miss you when we peace out in seven weeks.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
