BlogHer Conference Day One

Happy Friday everyone!
Saying hello again from NYC! Day two of BlogHer is well underway, so I’m popping in during a quick break before our first keynote speaker of the day.
Today’s schedule kicked off bright and early with a special breakfast with about 10 wonderful folks from The Today Show and about 10 other contributing writers for The Today Show Parenting Team.

As everyone went around the room and introduced themselves, I was squealing inside because I recognized so many of their sites and visit several of them regularly. I was very humbled and excited to be there among such great women. The breakfast hit the spot, the swag bags were generous, and the company was lovely. At the end of the event we all were given the chance to meet Wrangler, The Today Show dog that they’re preparing to be a service dog. Such a cutie!

I’m resting a bit in my room right now before heading to our first keynote of the day, but before I head downstairs I’d love to give you a recap of yesterday, day one!
After my quick morning run around Central Park (full recap from Wednesday-TH morning here), I took my time getting ready and headed out to explore NYC by foot for a few hours. The conference didn’t start until five, so I was excited about roaming the streets and seeing the sights at my own pace. Because I used to frequently visit NYC I wasn’t too eager to do any of the traditional touristy stuff, so having a free morning without an agenda was right up my alley.

I found myself meandering in and out of a few clothing stores, the American Girl doll store (I cannot wait to bring Hadley one day!), Rockefeller Center, and then finally Bryant Park. I parked it there for a bit to enjoy lunch outside and listen to a “Broadway in Bryant Park” performance.

A few hours later I headed back to the hotel to switch out my sandals for tennis shoes and took the subway downtown to an incredible toy store I’d found online called Kidding Around.

I wanted to find something fun for Hadley, and I had a ball exploring the store! If money grew on trees and I had the patience to have all those toys in my home I would have purchased a slew of stuff! They had the best selection of fun and purposeful toys. I ended up getting her a set of 10 stackable big blocks with numbers and animals on them, so I’m hoping she loves it!
After I finished shopping I made my way back to the hotel to gear up for the conference kick-off at 5pm, but first I grabbed my official registration badge and swag bag. So fun!

How gorgeous is this floral welcome decor in the conference lobby?

Our first keynote speakers were Melinda Gates (via video conference) and the two co-founders of the organization #BlackLivesMatter.

Shortly after 6 p.m. it was expo time! I couldn’t wait for this part and to meet with representatives from some of the products and brands I already use and love.

The swag that the exhibitors brought along was incredible; I’m glad I brought an extra suitcase to get it all home! Some of them were even offering hair blowouts, makeup applications, and a free headshot.

The giveaway opportunities were also mind blowing! The expo included a two-hour open bar and a large spread of food. After the expo most attendees made their way up to the 42nd and 44th floors to continue the party and to get to know other bloggers. Each party offered comfortable seating, drinks, food, and great company.

I finally called it a night and headed back to my room around 11 after a very full but wonderful day.
I’m really looking forward to the rest of what today holds and can’t wait to share the rest of the weekend with you on Monday!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
