Guest Post: Anatomy of a Great Travel Outfit

Hi there! I’m Jenn from What You Make It, a blog about God, marriage, style, and life adventures – from my perspective navigating it all with a baby. Pretty much everything is an adventure with a baby. I’m excited to be guest posting for Erica today! It was so sweet of her to allow me to stop in.
So I belong to that crazy category of people who actually like the “getting there” part of traveling almost as much as the destination. It isn’t always a great experience though, especially with airport security at an all-time high. Something that really helps is making good clothing choices when it comes to flying. Here are some tips!

Bear with me. I’m not a fashion blogger.

What to wear:
1. A simple tee. Security will have you disrobe to the layer closest to your skin, so make sure it’s something you’re comfortable wearing in public!
2. Jeans or pants you can roll up and down. The temperature in airports and planes is usually notoriously up and down. It’s best to wear something that will cover you when you’re cold and let you breathe when you’re hot.
3. Carry a cardigan. Again, the temperature. You’ll want something to keep you warm, just in case.
4. Comfortable shoes. You’ll likely be walking a lot – even if you don’t have to, you’ll probably want to stretch your legs. Also, make sure you can easily slip in and out of your shoes if you want to make it through security in decent time. I usually wear my Mary Jane Crocs. Say what you will about Crocs, but these are super comfortable!

What NOT to wear:
1. Jewelry. Usually these things are caught by the metal detector, giving you a nice delay in your time going through security. Opt for a scarf instead.
2. Belts. See number 1.
3. High heels, boots, or high-heeled boots. Remember, you have to walk, and you have to take your shoes off at security. Save yourself the hassle and sore feet, and wear something comfy.
4. Skirts or dresses. While they may be comfortable, they probably will give you more trouble than anything else – either making it awkward to juggle your luggage, or something to trip over in the case of maxi dresses and skirts. Pants are much easier to get around in.

What to bring:
– Carry-on with clothes. I recommend packing for the whole trip in your carry-on bag, if possible. Not only is it usually an extra cost to check baggage, it also takes extra time to check it and pick it up.
– Wallet with photo ID and tickets. You just don’t want to realize you forgot these things while you’re at the airport.
– Phone charger and head phones.
– Snacks (minus drinks). Most airlines don’t even do the bag of peanuts anymore, and airport food is expensive and not always tasty.

Again, I love sharing about travel! Check out these posts for more great tips: Travel Tips and Tricks: How to Enjoy the “Getting There” Too, Baby on Board: Tips for Traveling While Pregnant, and Baby’s First Flight: Tips for Flying with an Infant.

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
