For Bloggers: Tips For Organically Growing Your Community

When I first decided to take a more serious look at my blog last year, one area I wanted to learn more about was this so-called “blogging community” that I’d heard about. Many bloggers cite this community as their favorite part of blogging, so I was intrigued to learn more about how to grow mine and what the benefits would be.
I read many instructional posts regarding this topic, but at the end of the day I had to somewhat go about my own natural method of slowly, steadily, and organically building my own blogging community. Because many bloggers are always looking for new ways to extend their communities, I figured I’d share my own personal method for beginning and maintaining friendship and support within my own little blogging community.

Real quick – What is a blogging community?

A blogging community is a group of bloggers who support each other in countless ways – page views, comments, social media shares, and other general blogging support (i.e. design, post ideas, monetization help, etc.).

My method for steady and organic blog community growth:

1.) Once a new face comments on my blog, I’ll typically click one’s name and find out if she’s a blogger (99% of my readers are female… so we’ll go with “she”). If she has a blog I’ll find and read the “About Me” section and a few recent posts. If I enjoy one’s blog I’ll quickly search the sidebar for a BlogLovin’ button to follow more frequently.

2.) Once I’ve added the aforementioned blogger to my BlogLovin feed, I then want to add her to my “Fav Blogs” category so that we can start potentially building a community.
I recently started following Physical Kitchness, so I’m going to use her new blog as an example. Once I’ve started following her, I’ll find her blog on my sidebar.

I’ll click the blog name and then all her most recent posts should appear in a feed-like format. I’ll click the “Add to a group” button next.

I’ve already made a “Fav Blogs” group, so I click that to add her to it. Otherwise you can click just below “Unsorted blogs” and create a new group.
I’ll now pan over to the righthand sidebar again, click “Fav Blogs”, and check to see if she’s there!

Because I only have a small amount of time each day that I can dedicate to reading and commenting on blogs, I always read my “Fav Blogs” feed first. This ensures that I don’t miss any of their new posts just because they were caught up in the congestion of my regular BlogLovin feed.
My favorite blogs are the blogs that I don’t want to fall behind on. They’re written by bloggers who engage me and whose writing I enjoy. They’re bloggers I want to support with my page views, social media shares, and comments.
Once I’ve been following you for a while I’ll usually start following you on other social media challenges such as Facebook or Instagram, but I usually don’t find bloggers here unless they mention them within a post for a specific reason.
If you’d like me to check out your blog, please comment below and feel free to leave your blog link in the comments today so that maybe others can find you as well. I really enjoy the fun community I’ve found within blogging and am always open to  making new connections.

Let’s chat!

1.) Are you a big advocate of having a blogging community?
2.) What’s one big tip you have for others looking to grow their own community?

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
