Whether it was a big vacation, cross-country move, or the birth of a child, it seems like each year since we’ve been married has been identified in some roundabout way by a really big event. When I think about 2015, I can’t put my finger on what that singular “big event” might be (though several stand out), and that’s okay! Just like I wrote in this post a few months back, quiet often means very, very good around here. 🙂
Though we’ve had our ups and downs like everybody does, in general we’ve had a relatively nice, quiet 2015 full of very sweet family time. Jamie and I are totally intoxicated by being Hadley’s parents, and it seems like nearly every happy event this year has revolved around her and her milestones.
January
This month we celebrated our fourth anniversary with a long-weekend trip to Colorado to celebrate with some of our good friends that also have the same anniversary!
The heartache of the month was saying goodbye to my sister and brother-in-law as they moved away from Kansas down to Alabama for his Aviation career course.
February
In February we flew down to St. George Island, Florida for President’s Day weekend to vacation with one of my good college friends Bethy and her husband Bradley. My friend Jessica also flew up to visit us for a few days.
In March Jamie left for NTC in California for five weeks, and Hadley and I drove by ourselves down to spend a month in Alabama. My mom ended up severely breaking her ankle the day before I arrived, so Hadley and I ended up being good company for her while she recovered. We also got to visit with my aunt! During that trip, I left for a few days to vacation with my two best high school friends Amberlee and Ashley over in Asheville, North Carolina and had the very best girls’ getaway.
In April Hadley and I took a whirlwind trip from Alabama to New Hampshire for Jessica’s baby shower. I’m still so glad we made that trip up there, even if it was quick!
We also found out that we were losing the tenants in our rental property in Tennessee, so we listed the house for sale without ever meeting our real estate agent. It was wild.
May
In May we closed on the sale of our first home and said “See ya never!” to the title of being a landlord. 🙂
We also flew down to Panama City Beach, Florida for an amazing five-day beach vacation with my family. It was the best!
My mother-in-law also drove over from Kansas City a bunch to help me finish up Hadley’s nursery.
I attended my first military ball after 4.5 years as an Army wife and had the best time.
We also threw my friend Faith a big surprise baby shower at our home. So, May was busy!
June
In June my friend Meg & I drove over to Colorado Springs to spend a couple of days with some of our best friends that live there. I also got to see my friend Hannah who was visiting from Hawaii!
July
My parents came to visit us for the long 4th of July weekend, and we had a great time!
My mother-in-law also came over for a few days to watch Hadley while I spent five days in New York City attending the BlogHer ’15 conference.
August
In August I buckled down and finally finished painting every inch of brown trim in our home. BIG DEAL! I’d like to thank wine and iTunes radio for helping get me through it. 😉 We also found out that SURPRISE! I’m PREGNANT! Definitely an obvious highlight of the year. We also celebrated my father-in-law’s retirement from the Army.
September
In September we gave huge hugs and said goodbye to my in-laws as they made their big move back to Austin, Texas to enjoy retirement. Jamie and I also went on a four-night cruise to Cozumel as a gift to ourselves before he deployed.
The biggest news in September came when my sister told us that she’s pregnant! We are due with baby girls only five weeks apart. Incredible!
October
Jamie deployed overseas on the 15th, so there’s that. Whomp whomp. My parents both came up for a few days to keep me company, and I loved relaxing with them.
November
In November, Jamie’s mom and grandmother came to Kansas to visit Hadley and me and to celebrate Hadley’s second birthday!
Hadley and I also packed up for five weeks to head down south for the holidays. We spent Thanksgiving in Birmingham at my brother’s house.
December
This month we spent time with friends and family all over the south.
Hadley and I put over 3,500 miles on the car in just over five weeks. We also flew to Austin! We loved spending so much time with loved ones before hunkering down to get ready for this baby.
Like every. single. year when I think of these “year in review” posts, I just pray that when I write this next year that I’ll have only good things to report about 2016 and that all of my loved ones will be around and be very healthy.
Things I’m excited for in 2016:
- Meeting my baby girl in April
- Welcoming Jamie home from his deployment and readjusting as a family of four
- My sister becoming a mom in May
- Watching my dad complete his first marathon this spring
- Attending my 10-year high school class reunion
- Taking our first vacation as a family of four next fall

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
