Hey friends! I hope you’re having a nice week so far. We’ve been playing a little bit of catch-up around here after putting aside the never-ending to-do list and relishing in a really fabulous weekend. One of my very best and long-time friends Ashley flew in on Friday night to spend a few days with us, and I’m missing the heck out of her already!
Ashley and I have been best friends for 15+ years, and our friendship is just so easy. During the last few years our visits together have often revolved around some kind of special event, but this time I couldn’t wait to spend time together just for the sake of it. I was pumped for her to hang around with my girls but to also squeeze in plenty of time “just us” too, like the old days. 🙂

Not only did Hadley think having Ashley around was basically the best thing ever, but Sadie was bizarrely fascinated with her in a way I hadn’t seen Sadie act before! She actually couldn’t take her eyes off of her and was constantly straining her neck to look at her.
While Ashley was making her way in on Friday night, Sadie’s cold was rapidly getting worse at the same time. By Saturday morning we knew she needed to be seen by a doctor, so Jamie called our pediatrician’s office (which thankfully is open seven days a week) and had her seen by 9:30 a.m. He came home with news that she seems to keep catching cold after cold and also has her first ear infection. Broke my heart, but I was glad that she was prescribed an antibiotic to get her feeling better.
While they were at the doctor, Ashley and I took Hadley on a short jog and then got ready to run around town for a few hours. Jamie stayed home with Sadie so that she could snooze, and I know Hadley loved getting to hang with us. I loved it too!
After running around we came home to watch the Bama game and eat dinner. After getting Hadley and Sadie ready for bed, Jamie encouraged us to go out and hang at a rooftop restaurant. We each enjoyed a glass of wine, a full moon, and absolutely gorgeous weather. So relaxing and so much fun.
On Sunday we enjoyed a relaxing, quiet morning before sneaking away to enjoy a couple of hours at our new local winery, Liquid Art.
For dinner we decided to keep things easy and packed a picnic dinner to enjoy at a nearby park/playground. The weather was uncharacteristically warm all weekend, so it just made sense to spend as much time as we could outside.
On Monday we packed up the girls and road tripped down to Kansas City to spend a few hours before her late afternoon flight. I found our lunch spot Gram & Dun on TripAdvisor and would highly recommend it. We snagged a shaded table outside to eat at before walking around the Plaza for a bit. Perfect end to her trip.
Saying goodbye wasn’t too hard because we know we’ll get to play again next month at our 10 year high school reunion. Can’t wait!
You know who helped make this weekend so enjoyable? This guy.
Ashley and I were able to spend quite a bit of time kid-free this weekend thanks to Jamie who held down the fort at home. Even when Sadie was fussing and Hadley was hollering for him to put Sadie down so that he could play with her, he was still waving us out the door and telling us to have a good time. I could go on and on with how much he did to make sure that I had a great weekend with Ashley, and his genuine actions really filled my “love tank”. That Jamie DeSpain… he’s a good one.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
