Hi there! I’m Britt, and I’m grateful to Erica for sharing her space with me today. A bit about me, I live in Idaho, I’ve been married for 6.5 years to Kyle, and we have two little ones – Abe is 2.5 and Eliza is 10 months. My husband is a professional counselor and runs a parenting program for the state, and I am lucky enough to stay at home with Abe and Eliza. During naptime I blog at My Little Sunshines and work on my Usborne business, and I occasionally sneak in a nap, too 😉 I’m your pretty basic gal, I don’t exercise enough, I don’t eat extremely healthy, and I’m trying my hardest to raise my kids the best way I know how.
Reading is one of my favorite things in the world to do. If I’m not busy mothering my two littles, you will most likely find me curled up with a book. And I’m determined to pass on my love of reading to my kids. Today I thought I’d share with you 3 reasons you should read to your kids. I hope you enjoy it!
It promotes bonding between parent and child.
I love snuggling up with my kids and reading a book to them. That physical closeness is just what I need sometimes to reconnect with my kids, especially my 2 year old. Reading with your child also can help foster conversation between the two of you as you start to discuss the books you read and what happens in them. Starting to have discussions when your kids are younger will keep that doorway open for more serious discussions when they’re older.
It’s educational.
By reading with your child, you’re not only bonding with them, but you’re teaching them a host of different things. How to read (left to right, down the page), they start to recognize letters and words, their imagination stretches, they learn about their world, they learn different speech patterns, and so many more! And all of these things are so beneficial to their education and the growth of their minds. I love watching my son’s face light up when he learns something new or puts two and two together.
You’re teaching them that reading is FUN!
I think that a lot of children grow up thinking that reading is a chore, and no fun at all! By reading to your kids, especially if you use funny voices and facial expressions, you’re teaching them that reading can be fun! There are so many types of books out there these days that can foster a love of reading, so pick up some fun and exciting ones, and get to reading! Your kids will love it.
So there you go, 3 reasons you should read to your kids. I know there are many, many, many more reasons, and would love to hear your reasons below! Let’s get reading and help build up our kids’ minds and future 🙂

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
