Sunday was a full day in the very best way. We kicked off the morning with Sadie’s baby dedication, came home to regroup, and then Jamie and Hadley got ready to attend a local Father/Daughter Sweetheart Dance.
The dance was for girls ages 3+, and I remember last year thinking about how I couldn’t wait for Hadley to be old enough this year. She helped me pick out online weeks ago and talked nonstop about how excited she was to attend “the ball game” with Daddy. (I’d told her that she’d be going to a ball to dance like a princess, but she insisted that it was actually called a ball game. She’s a nut.)
Jamie is sneaky and ran out to grab her flowers and a corsage when I thought he was just outside washing his truck. While I was doing Hadley’s hair, he told me that he was going to ring the doorbell and asked that Hadley answer it. She loved her flowers and getting to actually wear one of them! We took a few pictures and they were off for their date. 🙂 Be still my heart!
When they got home, Hadley bolted to me to tell me all about it, but this pretty little girl in a fancy dress was now SO stinky and sweaty! I was laughing so hard because I knew that meant she must have danced her heart out. Jamie confirmed that that was the truth. 🙂
The rest of our weekend was spent soaking up much-needed family time.
We soaked up the perfect weather by going on a couple long walks, playing at the playground, and jumping on the trampoline.

Jamie and Hadley ran out at one point to grab Hadley’s new soccer gear, so Sadie and I did some rocking out front. While we were out there I realized how much time Sadie and I have spent in that spot. During my entire first trimester of my pregnancy with her, I sat outside and rocked. The fresh air was the only thing that brought me relief from my severe headaches. When she was a newborn we rocked every day, multiple times a day just to get her to stop crying. It worked every time. Now she’s my happy 10 month old and still just loves a-rockin’ with mama. Makes me happy.
On Saturday night we gave into our craving for Mexican food. Going out to eat is becoming a bit more enjoyable now that Sadie is eating a ton of table and doesn’t need to nurse constantly. 🙂 I swear, we have saved so much money when our girls were both infants by not going out to eat. It just was. not. fun. Ha!
The rodeo was in town this past weekend, and though we didn’t make it to a show like we did last year, we did swing by a couple of times to see all of the horses.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night were spent plopped on the couch together after the girls fell asleep catching up on five episodes of This Is Us. I didn’t watch it while Jamie was gone, and we both really enjoying catching up on it together. Perfect way to end the day.
Let’s chat!
- Are you watching This Is Us? Who is your favorite character? Last night’s episode wrecked me. I sobbed! Now I just need to know what happens to Jack.
- What do you do with your family during commitment-free weekends?
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
