Britt and I rebranded our blogs and started consistently blogging right around the same time, and because we have kids very close in age, it’s fun to keep up with each other. Reading her blog has always felt like a breath of fresh air. Even when she talks about tough subjects, she does so gently with a touch of optimism. She’s also a fabulous writer in general and easy to follow along with. I hope you enjoy her as much as I have for the last few years. 🙂
Q: In three sentences or less, tell us a little bit about who you are.
A: I’m Britt! I was born in Florida, raised in Utah, and have lived in Idaho for the past 6 years, and don’t think I’ll ever leave. I’ve been married to my fabulous husband Kyle (who is a counselor, and runs a parenting program for the state) for 7 years in May, and we have two cute kiddos named Abe (3) and Eliza (18 months). I have a degree in Human Development, am a member of the LDS Church, and some of my favorite things are reading, writing, shopping, Harry Potter, LipSense, and Diet Coke.
Q: When did you start your blog, and what are your favorite topics to blog about?
A: I published my first blog post about 13 or 14 years ago (I had a Blogger blog in junior high before they were bought by Google!) and have had various blogs since then. I started My Little Sunshines in June of 2014, because I wanted a fresh start, and wanted to join the blogging community that I was just then learning about. I love to write about motherhood, marriage, books and reading, my faith and religions, and I also throw in beauty and fashion favorites, too. I obviously have lots of interests, and I love blogging about them all! 🙂
Q: Who do you think would really enjoy reading your content?
A: Probably moms of littles ones, like I have! I try to create some content that would be applicable to a variety of people, but being a mom to two toddlers is my life right now, and so that comes out in most of my posts!
Q: You’ve shown so much bravery in sharing about your personal life growing up. What was your motivation to share some of these personal experiences?
A: Thank you! I just really wanted to open up to people, and share some experiences about what makes me, me. A lot of times we can get in the habit of thinking that bloggers all have wonderful lives, with wonderful backgrounds, but that’s not the case at all. I also am a bit nosy myself when it comes to other’s backstories, so I thought some of my readers might be like me, and would enjoy knowing some of mine!
Q: Tell us a little bit about your kids and what fun things you enjoy doing with them.
A: Oh, my kids! They’re the greatest 😉 Abe just turned 3 a couple of weeks ago, and he’s the sweetest and most sensitive kid. Eliza is nearing 18 months (they’re 19 months apart) and is showing her, um, fiesty, personality more and more. I love the ages they are right now, because although they can be challenging, they are starting to play and interact together and it’s so cute to watch! We love to read books, have playdates with friends, and wrestle together. Abe also loves to help me bake, and they both enjoy “cleaning’.
Q: I know you love reading on your own and reading to your children. Why do you believe it’s so important to read to your children as often as possible?
A: I am such a lover of reading! I have loved to read my whole life, and I have always hoped that my kids would love reading, too, and so far, they do! I think reading is so important, it helps children’s imaginations to grow, their vocabulary to expand, and their language skills to develop. Plus, reading to, and with, your child(ren) can create such fun, bonding experiences and long-lasting memories for them.
Q: What do you love about living in Idaho?
A: Idaho is so beautiful! Growing up in Utah, I’ve always been a mountain girl, and while southeastern Idaho, doesn’t have the large, majestic mountains, like Utah and other areas do, it still has a lot of fun places to visit where we can get our outdoor fix. We love our proximity to the Tetons and Yellowstone, as well! We lived in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, for 2 years, which has beautiful mountains, rivers, lakes, and pine trees everywhere, and we still miss it every day. We also love that it’s a bit of a slower pace of life, more country living than city, and that there are less people than the Salt Lake valley where we both grew up. And one last thing, it has a cheaper cost of living than a lot of states 😉 Always a bonus!
Q: For those who are new to your site, where should they start?
A: Hmm, let’s see!
- I think this post kind of really speaks to who I am and what I am trying to make of my life, and by extension, my blog, so I think it’d be a great place to start.
- I also like to write about different motherhood experiences, so here is one that deal with breastfeeding (spoiler: I hate it) as well as c-section and vaginal births (I’ve had one of each).
- I also really believe that no matter what we as women choose to do with our lives, if we follow our heart, we will be where we’re needed.
- One last one, I’m not a physically fit person who enjoy exercise by any means, BUT I did complete a triathlon last year and I LOVED it.
And just for fun…
Spring or Fall? That’s so hard! They’re my two favorite seasons! But because we’re currently in Spring, that’s what I’ll pick!
Chinese food or Mexican? Hmmm, probably Chinese! Mexican food is something I really have to be in the mood for to eat (unless it’s guacamole, give me all the guacamole) but I’m up for Chinese food all the time! (And Indian, and Thai, and….).
Massage or facial? I’ve never had a facial before! And I’ve only had one massage, but that massage was heavenly, I tell you, heavenly.
Early bird or night owl? Neither? I just really like my sleep. I used to be more productive at night when I was a crazy college kid, but these days, I definitely get more done in the morning. IF I go to sleep at an early hour (like between 9-10) and IF my kids don’t wake up during the night, then I can usually feel well-rested and get up before my kids wake up, which I really enjoy.

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
