Hello hello! I hope this finds you well and that you’re enjoying the start of a nice weekend. As you read this, we’re likely somewhere in Arkansas making our way over to today’s destination: Memphis!
Today’s featured blogger has quite the story to tell. Admittedly she is a blogger I’m not super familiar with, so I recently spent some time on her site reading through her content in preparation for this interview. I told Shannon via email that I got totally sucked into her content almost immediately. Her writing is captivating, and she speaks about motherhood and life with bravery, rawness, and fun. I probably spent a good hour or more just reading post after post. She’s one to follow for sure!
I hope you enjoy this brief interview with Shannon from Messy Buns and Baby Bums. 🙂
Q: In three sentences or less, tell us a little bit about who you are.
A: I am a 26 year old wife to an amazing hubby, and mama of two little girls. We live in the Atlanta area, and love venturing out to all the fun events our city has to offer. I also love spending as much time as I can with family, extended and ALL! (We both have massive families)
Q: When and why did you start your blog, and what do you primarily blog about?
A: Originally, I started my blog as a mother of one and found myself bored a lot of the time, having hardly any adult interaction on a daily basis, other than my husband. I didn’t necessarily start my blog for anyone to read it at all. It was more of an outlet for myself. I am glad people do read it though, because it makes me feel like I have others relating to me in certain ways. I wanted it to be a blog that has lots of topics, but I find myself writing about my life with two children and how we handle our daily struggles and fun, with a few other topics here and there.
Q: How old are your precious kiddos? What are your favorite things to do with them?
A: I have a 2.5 year old, Payton. And a 3 month old, Adalynn. Honestly, I don’t get out too often with having a new baby and toddler. We’re still adjusting. But when we do get out, I love taking them to the park, or the pool. Payton can play off some energy and Addy and I get a little Vitamin D. We usually end our trips by getting a smoothie.
Q: You’ve shared your heart lately about your infant’s hearing loss. Would you mind sharing a summary of what’s been going on the last couple of months?
A: When our newest little love, Adalynn was born she failed the hearing exam that they do on newborns in the hospital. We originally thought it was fluids due to a pretty fast delivery. After failing a few more times at her pediatrician’s office we were referred to a specialist. They confirmed that Adalynn has profound hearing loss (essentially deaf, but not 100%). I was so lost and confused since no one in either mine or my husband’s families had ever had hearing problems. It was just a genetic malformation, unfortunately. She will wear hearing aids for now, in order to help her hear as much sound as possible before she gets her cochlear implants when she turns one year old. It’s not been easy, and some days I still feel like it’s not really happening to us, but we’ve just put all our faith in God, with this one!
Q: Why are you choosing to go public with this journey?
A: Initially, I wanted to keep it a secret. I didn’t want anyone to know. I was SO saddened by the news and knew the doctors were wrong. But…they were not, and now, we’re facing it. I feel like sharing Addy’s story with whoever reads it, could help them in something they may be going through with their own child. It’s easy to feel alone, but when I read other women’s blog posts about things they’re struggling with and how they’ve overcome hardships, it helps me stay strong. So, I have hopes that our story will help someone else.
Q: If you had a whole day all to yourself, how would you spend it?
A: Oh wow! A whole day? Honestly, I would sleep in, get a massage, manicure, pedicure, shop, and have 3 whole entire, hour long meals in silence. Ha! That sounds like heaven to me.
Q: Where should new readers start on your site?
Just Keep Mumming | The Days Are Long But The Years Are Short | May 1st 2017
And just for fun…
- Watch a movie at a theater or at home? Definitely, at home.
- Swiss or cheddar cheese? Oh. Hard, but probably cheddar.
- Early bird or night owl? Neither anymore, with kids. HA! but I used to be a night owl.
- Shorts and a tank or sundress? Definitely shorts and tank.

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
