I have about 10 blogs I try to go straight to at some point throughout every day, and Emily’s is one of them. I’ve said before that my personal favorite blogs to read are the ones that allow me to get to know the author as if she were my friend, and Emily’s blog fits this criteria to a tee. She is really kind, non intimidating, and full of stories to tell about her day-to-day life. I really enjoy her blog and I hope you’ll start following along with her today. 🙂
Q: Introduce yourself! In three sentences or less, please tell us a little bit about who you are.
A: Hi! I am Emily, or Em as most people call me. A thirty year old working in corporate America, who loves my family, reading, decorating, and cooking! I tend to be shy when I first meet people, but can be very bubbly and open once we are close!
Q: When did you start your blog, and who do you think would really enjoy your content?
A: I started my blog in April of 2015. As far as readers go, I think anyone who loves reading, cooking, decorating, shopping, or just reading about everyday life would enjoy my blog. I feel like it truly is a little bit of everything!
Q: You continually amaze me with your ability to create great content close to every weekday while working a full-time job. How do you manage to do both?
A: Thank you!!! That is such a nice compliment! I think the key is to just make it a priority. I wanted to blog long before I actually started, and it’s something that I love to do. I enjoy reading blogs that post consistently, so I wanted to make sure to do that for myself. Of course, life does get in the way at times, but I try my hardest to plan and put in the time to get it done.
Q: What is your full-time job?
A: I work in investor relations. Investor relations can be boiled down to just that – investor relations. My department works with those that hold the company’s shares, the investors. Of course there is more to it, but that’s it at its simplest level. As far as my role, it’s a lot of quarterly earnings prep, lots of presentations, activity monitoring, and some ad hoc projects as things come up.
Q: What do you enjoy the most about occasionally traveling for work?
A: I think there are two things I enjoy the most. One is getting to see new places. I had never been to New York before, but with my role now, I get to go once a year. I love it! The second, which I have some love/hate feelings about, is getting outside of my comfort zone and traveling solo. I get a bit nervous in new situations, especially when I am alone, and prior to this job I had never flown or grabbed a taxi by myself. I still get nervous and prefer to travel with others, but I know now that I can do it alone! It just gives me an added bit of confidence.
Q: I know that family is so important to you and that you’re close with your nephew. Does your family live nearby you in the St. Louis area? If so, what are your favorite ways to spend your time together?
A: Yes! Family is everything! I feel I have always been close to my family, but as the years go by, I appreciate them more and more! Unfortunately, we are a bit spread out from each other – a little over 3 hour drive to my parents, and then a bit over 4 to my brother, sister in law and nephew. I have a definite appreciation for FaceTime, especially with my nephew!
Luckily, we are able to get together quite a bit, which is always so nice. A lot of times we just visit and enjoy each other’s company. Over the holidays, you will often find us just gathered in my parents’ kitchen while my mom is preparing food. When we are all together, my brother, sister in law and I like to steal some time out together, just us, which is always nice.
My mom makes some solo trips to St. Louis to visit, and we usually spend our time shopping, decorating and even cleaning!
If my dad is along, he usually gets put to work, hanging or fixing something. They are huge helps!
Q: What do you enjoy the most about your blog? What has been the most surprising or the most difficult?
A: I definitely enjoy being able to connect with others the most. I have made some really great friends that I would have never met otherwise! Even though we are spread far and wide, it’s so nice to know that they are only a quick email or text away! There have been a lot of things that have surprised me with blogging, two being the time that goes into putting together a post, and also the fakeness that can exist in blogging. People think blogging is so easy, but it can be very time consuming and take a bit of work to put together! As far as the politics / fakeness, I take a lot of things at face value, but often things are strategically done for the sake of blogging and not actually ‘real life’, which I sometimes find a bit disheartening. That may be me just being a bit naïve, too. When it comes to difficulty, I think the hardest thing is accepting that not everyone is going to like you or your blog and that it is totally okay! Some days you just have to remind yourself of that! However, that being said there are a lot of great people blogging, which totally makes it worthwhile to be part of the blogging community.
Q: Where should new readers start on your site?
A: My Twenty-Nine post is a great way to learn more about me – I shared twenty-nine things about myself on my 29th birthday! To get more of a sense about my family (and who I come from), I raved about all of them in my Lucky post earlier this year. And of course, my latest Day in the Life post – these are my favorite posts to read and it will give some insight on my day to day!
Q: Where can we find you on social media?
A: Instagram (emilyanndunham) / Pinterest (emilyanndunham)
And just for fun…
- Horror or comedy movie? Comedy – I used to LOVE scary movies until I realized that they really aren’t that farfetched and could happen in real life – no, thank you!
- Red or green apples? Either – I love a good apple!
- Out to breakfast or dinner? Dinner – I love to linger over a good dinner out!
- Turn on overhead light or side lamps? Side lamps – my mom instilled that one in me!
Is this your first time to my Whimsical September? Welcome!

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
