Kansas bloggers are feeeeew and far between; there aren’t many of us! Fortunately I’ve had the pleasure to meet several of them though, and one of my absolute favorites is this girl!
Meet Stephanie, today’s featured “Saturday Sit-Down” blogger. 🙂 She and I had been following each other’s blogs for a while, and last summer she ran over to World Market to meet me when I was doing a fun little demo in her area. She is as kind and authentic as she always seemed online, and meeting her was such a treat. I’m so glad to introduce her to you all too! Her blog is primarily a DIY/home decor blog, but her list of topics extends way beyond that from time to time. She works so hard at everything she does, though she makes it look effortless. Meet Stephanie from One Mile Home Style. 🙂
Q: In three sentences or less, tell us a little bit about who you are!
A: My name is Stephanie, I am married to my highschool sweetheart, Kevin, we have 2 boys, Julian and Kaleb, and 2 cats, Leon and Sadie. I love the thrill of shopping flea markets and thrift stores for hidden treasures that just need a quick spray paint makeover. I’m also a big sports fan!
Q: When did you decide to start a blog, and what do you blog about?
A: At the urging of a few friends, I started my blog a little over 4 years ago, just to share home decorating and organizing ideas. I have really started to refine my style more over the last couple of years, and decided to take this whole blogging gig a little more seriously, and even opened an Etsy and t-shirt shop earlier this year!
Q: You have a natural eye for design and such a beautiful home. Would you call interior design a passion of yours?
A: Yes, for sure! It’s something that I really enjoy doing, and I love sharing that passion with others. My ultimate goal is to inspire people to decorate with the things they love, and not get hung up on having a Pinterest-Perfect home. As a kid, I remember shutting myself in my room and completely rearranging everything just for fun!
Q: Your home seems to follow a general color scheme with shades of blue. What are your favorite colors to mix in with that blue color scheme?
A: All of the rooms in our home have grey and navy blue as the primary colors, then I like play around with the accents. I think black and white are easy, and necessary accents to give a room some depth, I am still loving gold accents to add a little fun too! One color I’ve never decorated much with is pink, and I want to start adding more of it because I think it looks so good with grey; I’m easing my way in on that one, starting with flowers and maybe a couple of fun pillows.
Q: Do you have any projects you’re working on or planning to work on?
A: Right now we are working on some back to school organizing, it just makes our morning dashes out the door easier, and keeps the endless amount of papers under control. The one space in our home that we have neglected the longest is our basement, and we are finally starting to get some plans put together for finishing the space!
Q: Your DIY projects put on full display how crafty and handy you are! When do you find time to work on DIY projects?
A: Between working full-time and the general busyness of being a mom, it’s hard to find time on a regular basis. I keep a notebook where I jot down ideas for future projects, and then when I know we have a free weekend, I group similar projects together to complete multiple projects at one time. Depending on the project, sometimes it’s a family affair, and the boys help out too, which makes it more fun!
Q: I know that you have two sons. ☺ How old are they, and what are some of your favorite things about raising boys?
A: Julian is 11, and Kaleb is 9. I just love being able to feel like a kid again, playing with legos, nerf gun fights, and playing baseball in the yard.
Q: I know how much you love Kansas (as do I!) What do you love about living here?
A: I love having all four seasons, although I will be the first to complain about the cold in the middle of winter! We have pretty beautiful sunsets, the scenery is beautiful too (contrary to popular belief, Kansas isn’t entirely flat)! And let’s not forget about those Jayhawks!!
Q: Where should new readers start on your blog?Â
Free Decorating Just By Shopping Your Home
Simple (and Decorative) Lego Storage
Turn an Old Door Into a Farmhouse Style Coffee Table
Q: Where can we find you on social media?
And just for fun…
- Pancakes or waffles? Pancakes
- More scared of snakes or spiders? Definitely snakes!
- Hobby Lobby or Michael’s? Michael’s (but Hobby Lobby has really good faux greenery!)
- Spring or fall? That’s a hard one…I think I will have to say spring, everything greens back up, and I can open the windows and let the fresh air in!
Is this your first time to Whimsical September? Welcome!

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
