Slice of Life: August 24th, 2017

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m thrilled to see Thursday rolling around already! It’s been a full week for our fam, and the fun will keep on comin’ as we head to Birmingham this weekend for a wedding and to see a big handful of our close friends. It’ll be a fast and furious trip, but we are so looking forward to it.

We have two things on our agenda today: Hadley’s first gymnastics class of the year (we’re all excited!) and getting the house ready to receive my in-laws tomorrow (they’re keeping the girls while we’re in Alabama).

Let’s jump into a “slice of life”, shall we?

Last week Jamie competed in his first Crossfit competition during Fort Riley’s Victory Week, and the girls and I had a blast watching him!

Hadley cheered her head off for Daddy, and Sadie caught on to all the clapping and joined right in. She loved the action!

He’s our muscle man and makes us all proud. 🙂

Real talk: This peanut has been giving us a run for our money the last 6-8 weeks with her tantrums, but I think she might have heard me having a meltdown on the phone with my mom one night because the very next day she seemingly woke up a new baby. She’s always been our super happy, silly girl, so her behavior at home and in public (especially in public!) the last couple months has been challenging, to say the least. I have a bunch of theories for why she’s been so discontent and hard to please recently, but I’m just thankful that she’s been happier the last week or so. Ebbs and flows, ebbs and flows.

This smile and those baby blue eyes totally have my number. She knows how to melt her daddy and me!

Last week Jamie’s soldiers had the second half of the day off to have a big family BBQ (known as an ORG day to my military readers!) I showed up about five minutes late and weirdly felt so proud seeing Jamie standing up talking with all of his soldiers and their families. I know this is something he does every day, but it just made me proud to see when we pulled up. He really loves his company and his soldiers (I do too!). It’s a good group and I’m glad he’s had this experience. Just a few months to go until he relinquishes it to the next guy!

I had a handful of errands to run Saturday afternoon, and usually if Jamie’s home I just leave the girls with him for a few hours and I’ll go out. Spontaneously I decided to tell Hadley to throw her shoes on and come with me for the afternoon. I very rarely (if ever) have time with my girls one-on-one and want to be a little more intentional in the future about spending that individual time with them.

We finished up our errands and then enjoyed a big slice of chocolate cake from Radina’s. PS – Notice Hadley’s cat, Sophia (a.k.a “the cat in pajamas”), in the picture above? Now that I’m pointing this out, take note in future social media and blog posts of how often Sophia sneaks into Hadley’s pictures. This dang cat goes everywhere and is by Hadley’s side the majority of the day. Remember how she treated Piggy the same way?

On Monday the girls and I headed about 50 miles northeast to Marysville so that we could be in the 100% totality range for the solar eclipse. I’d read that the difference between a place that’s 99% vs. 100% was drastic, so we decided to roll the dice and take a chance on it being as cool as all the hype made it out to be. I didn’t go with any friends or do any planning because I kind of just wanted to wing it and keep my expectations for the day manageable. We saw a neat playground as we rolled into this cute little town, so the girls played while we all waited for the big event.

Seeing the eclipse was an extremely worthwhile experience. Hadley and I used our glasses to watch the moon slowly cover the sun, and I couldn’t believe how fascinated she was by the whole thing. It didn’t get too dark until about 30 seconds before the “diamond” effect, which was so beautiful. The hype for the solar eclipse was well-deserved; the show in the sky was unlike anything I’d ever seen before.

The only thing I felt bummed about was that Jamie couldn’t come with us. At first I didn’t really mind that he had to work because it was a Monday after all, but I know he would have really enjoyed it, especially seeing Hadley’s reaction. Oh well! We’ll try again in 2024. 😉

And finally! Two things I’m loving lately.

#1 – This is the best cleaning tool I have purchased in a LONG time. I bought it randomly a few days ago and have literally been walking around the house like a big goofball trying to find areas of our home that need to be cleaned with this tool! It gets in all those hard to reach spots that you can never seem to get clean enough, like the rim around the drains in our bathroom sinks, bathroom/kitchen faucets, or in the corners of our tiled walk-in shower. I used it right along with our normal cleaners, and it’s INCREDIBLE. You should hear me talk about it on the phone; I just go on and on. 🙂 Trust me and buy one! You won’t believe how well it cleans!

And #2 – Bralettes are having a major moment right now, and I’m loving I got a couple weeks ago. I’ve had to get all new bras after I was done being pregnant with and breastfeeding Sadie, so I like to think of as a necessary purchase. 😉 I pulled my shirt to the side just a tad in this pic so you can get an idea of what it looks like. I think the double straps will be so cute this fall/winter under slouchy sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. I also love it for just wearing around the house under tanks and t-shirts. Very comfortable! It’s also just cute in general, which always makes ya feel a little better when you’re wearing something cute. 🙂 Highly recommend if you’re into the bralette thing!
