It’s a celebratory week around here because tomorrow because this precious little love of my life turns two!
And speaking of Sadie and the “Slice of Life” that this post is, she got her first significant black eye recently. She was trying to be silly and run away from Jamie and crashed hard right into an arm of a chair. Can you see the bruise on her eyelid forming in this picture? It went away within a few days, but she looked pretty rough for a minute there! A black eye is like a right of passage for a kid, right? Hadley secured her first (and only) one a few days before her first birthday, when she was reaching for a toy in the empty bathtub and fell right in. These kids give me a heart attack!
So, I know everybody says that once they cut cable they never miss it, but I guess we’re the oddballs because we’ve totally missed it the last 14 months or so. Honestly, we rarely watch TV, but we missed the convenience of having whatever station on at random times and especially found it inconvenient when company was in town. We got a great promo deal, and we’re happy as could be to have good ole regular cable back in our lives. Sipping coffee and watching the morning news feels like one of life’s simple (lame!) pleasures. Ha. 🙂
We’ve gotten to spend a little time here and there with hometown friends (with still many more to see!), and I just love it. I love the people I grew up with so much and love the guys they’ve married, so it’s just such a win to know that we can do life on the regular together now. It’s also fun to hear Jamie refer to them as “our” friends and not just “my” friends. He’s gotten to know everyone so well the last few years and is just as glad as I am to see these people more often. Makes me so happy.
I love that Hadley is quickly figuring out that Mommy’s friends are really darn special!
Jamie felt motivated last week to put our trampoline up, and boy oh boy – the girls are just thrilled! I don’t know what’s going on in this picture, but I know a little diva who thinks that jumping on the trampoline with her sister is one version of Heaven.
Before we headed to Birmingham last weekend, we made a big batch of S’more cookie cups to bring to the friends we were staying with as well as my parents (for keeping the girls), and a bunch of you messaged me on Instagram asking for the recipe. It’s from Six Sisters Stuff, and it’s the absolute best. My bestie Meg shared it with me years ago, and we’ve made it approximately 200 times since. 😉
We have a tub! Gasp! Our last two homes didn’t have a tub in the master bath, and as a sweet bonus, this one has jets! It’s the little things in life. 🙂 Hadley thinks they’re great (because it makes a ton of bubbles), but Sadie says NO MA’AM.
Jamie and I both grew up in neighborhoods with a ton of kids our ages, so we both really wanted to find a subdivision that was similar. Our realtors legally couldn’t tell us specifics about the families in the neighborhood, but we could tell by a few swingsets and trampolines that there were kids. On our walks lately we’ve met a handful of neighbors, and we think we picked well with our neighborhood.
We had the very best neighbors in the world in Manhattan (Heeyyyy Butlers and Andelas!), so we know how sweet it is to have great people that live just feet away. We wanted that again, and I hope we’ve found it! Relationships obviously take time to form, but we feel hopeful that our summer will be fun as it’s spent around the neighborhood pool with new friends for all of us.
Have a great rest of your Tuesday! See ya tomorrow. 🙂 xo
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
